Is it possible to setup a desktop “toddler-proof”? i.e. disable menu, home and back buttons. The “return to normal desktop” icon can be placed far from the home screen with a difficult gesture to activate. Home screen will just contain toddler games.

Yeah… Just did this yesterday by clipping a folded piece of paper over the home buttons.

You could designate the home button to go to the default toddler desktop while using a two finger swipe gesture to go to the desktop you want. It may work.

I think something like ‘security by obscurity’ is a good solution (but maybe not as good as the piece of paper 😉

My next android project is a toddler game+launcher. Not sure that I will ever be able to start it though !

Pierre, as a father of two young kids, I can tell you there would be a lot of interest (including my own) in a launcher like that. It seems that you could come up with something relatively easily if you are able to create LL! (dont stop developing LL!!!!)

Another tip I’d give to parents: use the app gravity screen if you want them to be able to pick up tablet and have screen pop on. Having to press hardware buttons (especially in toddler proof cases) can be a pain.

Good one Bradley Stone . Just installed it. Nice little convenience that I never knew was missing.

this is already possible, just set up a desktop where the only exit is a slide gesture, no icon + no text gridded square somewhere in a corner

Even if you hide exit method perfectly, kids can open Android’s built-in task switcher, open notification, go to Android Setting, and do something harmful.

You need app locker for true toddler proof.

yeh, capacitive buttons can be an issue, i set them to long press activation + that confuses enough ppl, could work for toddlers

Bradley Stone I am thinking at this since my baby is born (2 years already) but as you see, LL development has a higher priority (I mean: than the other app, not higher priority than the baby 😉

Pierre Hébert Yep… in that case you can think of adding a plugin to LL 🙂
