I just surprised myself. Thanks to +gerd reuter who drove me into the mode.
I tried to merge some ideas mentioned by +Carolyn Boyle and others. Its my first try to design an icon myself, it is nothing great. Take it more as an idea which has to be realized in good quality by a real designer if – and i bet it won’t – it would get selected by pierre / the community.
I like it Lukas Morawietzâ … using the lightning bolt like a pen that symbolically “draws/creates” the android desktop is very elegant (one interpretation I guess).
As another idea …. I see LLX as an open canvas where you can paint anything you like … whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned “artist”. All other launchers, by comparison, are like ” paint-by-numbers” templates … already done for you. So maybe the idea of replacing the circle with a canvas or open landscape?
The hand implies the editing part well, yes. But as powerful LL’s editing capabilities are: it’s mainly a launcher. We use it most time for launching apps, not editing.
Better fitting would be like Zeus’ hand throwing a lightning bolt đ

For a first try, this is a success.
