Just an idea: instead of the slide transition I am wondering whether it would be possible to use some sort of zoom. The idea is to have two pages: one at zoom 1.0 with items at scale 1.0 and another page at zoom 0.25 but with items at scale 4.0 to compensate for the zoom, and then switch from one to another with position shortcuts.
