I’d like to customise my lock screen, specifically to have a different animation for unlocking (an upward slide), and a different icon for unlocking. I tried both the built in unlocker element (can’t seem to change the icon) and a custom element with the unlock action assigned to “swipe up” (setting the launch animation has no effect, plus now there’s a selection highlight when I tap it). Is it possible to do this?

you tryna make a slide up lockscreen like this? The the unlocker icon cant be changed but you can set a background image and hide the icon, but you don’t really need to cuz any object can act as an unlocker.
