A widget I was working just disappeared, I gave it too much skew. Has it gone or do I need to find it to delete it?

I’ve tried tapping around to see if it is selected and zoomed right out for a visual.

Is there somewhere you can see a list of current widgets and their ids?

Thanks for your reply jindrich mottl, but nothing listed. Just Desktop 1 #000000 and a blank page. I have 5 or so widgets a panel and a folder. Hopefully th broken widget is gone.

Try restarting your device. I’ve been having similar problems, and the ‘missing’ items usually reappear, upon a full restart.

I’d love to know WHY this is happening, or solutions, but for now…restart it is.

Klyntone Bourserk what you are looking for is:

Long press desktop -> Items -> Hierarchy

To see a list of items in your desktop.

Michael P. Jackson add a shortcut somewhere, to Lightning Actions – restart app, and name it Kill LL or something.

This will conveniently restart the launcher when needed.

    Thanks.

FYI: When the items have ‘disappeared’ for me, they’re not even visible in hierarchy list, until I restart the launcher. They seem completely nonexistent, but after restart, there they are. It’s really bizarre.

Michael P. Jackson don’t know what to say about that. Maybe running low on memory? Lots of widgets can cause that. You could temporarily add a dynamic text for Heap Free to monitor.

    I do have a semi-low-memory (1gb) device.

As for widgets, only 3. 2 are buried in folders, so I’m assuming, these only consume memory, when open (but this could be wrong). The 3rd is a 1×1 battery monitor.

The problem usually occurs upon exiting edit mode, but reentering edit mode doesn’t reverse it.

Michael P. Jackson widgets use what they use all the time, unfortunately.

Pierre said something about it… I’ll get it wrong, so I won’t try to repeat from memory 🙂

Got it. Thank you for correcting my faulty logic.

(I had assumed it was based on graphical redrawing.)

Pierre said that widgets in folders (or on other desktops) don’t use any memory until the first time you look at them. After that, they remain in memory.

Chris Chastain apology not needed, it’s all good on topic info.

Michael P. Jackson thanks a restart did it, for me i assume it would not be low memory as i have 3gb ram.

I wanted to find it because i thought even if it was hidden it would still be using resources so it was good to have that confirmed Ian Macdonald.

So it turns out i had unknowingly dragged th offending widget into a folder, hence th sudden vanishing (D’oh) it is deleted now, we can all rest easy 😉

The total available system memory doesn’t really matter, basically it just allows more app to reside into memory at once. In the end each app has its own limit, which can be 64M, 128M, 192M, etc. depending on system configuration. 1Gb, 3Gb, no difference for a single app.

One big flaw with widgets is the update. Sometimes the amount of data to transfer from the widget provider to the widget host (the launcher) is too large and Android silently hides this (or crash on some versions, lol). As a result widgets appear stuck and this has nothing to do with the launcher.

Ok, but too much skew on any item can cause this behavior. In my experience.
