   Hum, I just had the look at the reference documentation for this permission and it says : “Not for use by third-party applications due to privacy of media consumption”.

   
   

   Also messages in logcat says : Not granting permission android.permission.MEDIA_CONTENT_CONTROL”

   
   

   So this probably means that the system refuses to grant this permission to third party apps and you definitely need to be root to bypass this protection
