Does anyone else have serious battery drain problems with lightning launcher?

Every since I installed it on my rooted Nexus 6P I’ve had to basically keep my phone plugged in all the time and even then it will take 2 hours to increase battery level by 10%. The only other new app is installed is zooper widget.

Battery life is fine if I turn off the screen but when using the phone the battery just disappears. Using GSam Battery Monitor it tells me that the Android Kernel is using all the battery so I don’t even have the option of funding and killing an app to sort it out.

I’ve tried everything I can think of (and search for) to eliminate any other cause but no luck.

Writing this post just cost me 5% battery! Anyone experienced battery problems before too? Any suggestions, caused I really don’t want to get rid of llx since it’s excellent?

Try moving back to stock and see what happens. Also check your battery page in settings to see what’s going on.

  2. Lightning launcher definitely the culprit. Phone discharging at ~1100mA per hour when llx installed.

Switched back to stock, that took it down to ~900mA (likely cause llx not actively on screen) . Removed zooper to check on that as possibility but no change.

Uninstalled llx and discharge dropped to ~200mA.

Anyone heard of similar power issues with llx before?

I was using the ‘Hide and Seek – PixelPerfect’ template from the play store in case that makes any difference (I doubt it does but I’ll reinstall llx tomorrow and try a different template just in case, bed time here in UK).

  3. The first thing I would do would be to clear cache when having battery issues.

If that doesn’t help, start with LL without a template installed.

  4. It definitely seems to be LL. I went back to stock and removed LL and any templates I installed from the Play Store. The battery usage dropped back down to 100-200mA just on the stock launcher.

Reinstalling LL and using the basic desktop it comes with raised battery use to well over 1000mA again.

I was hoping it was the template I had previously been using and something to do with the widgets constantly refreshing but that’s obviously not the case since the default ’empty’ template makes the battery use shoot up too.

Does anyone have any ideas cause I really love LL and want to figure this out so I can keep using it? I would put up with a moderate battery spike but this is unsustainable.

  5. Don’t know what to say. I don’t have any issue like that. Haven’t heard of any either. I’ve had memory issues in the past but only when using a shit load of widgets, or images… normal stuff like that.

Could be that Google widget bug that was killing batteries with the widget a little while ago.

  7. Thanks for all the input. I’ve been doing some testing and still can’t quite work it out. Fresh LL install (no widgets) makes the battery bounce up to over 1500mA for a while but it will then often fall back to a normal 200-300mA. It will go from normal to power hungry seemingly at random. Whenever I unlock the phone it always jumps up to massive power use for a while at least but it will also do it randomly while I’m using it and it can last for minutes at a time or only seconds.

There doesn’t seem to be any particular trigger for the phone using a lot of battery. The battery use apps I’ve tried all say that it is the Android Kernel using the power.

Loading up the desktop with widgets doesn’t change the frequency or duration either.

At the minute I’m okay to live with it. It is probably running through battery about twice as fast as normal but I’m never far from a plug or PC so that’s okay. I’ll keep tinkering with various LL settings and Android settings to see if I can find a solution. If I do I’ll let you guys know.

  8. I have the same issue with my Galaxy S6 Edge 😯

    Did you find any solution?

  9. But Go is just so full of ads and the cleaning ram feature is just not how Android works. Then I would rather go with Nova
