I’ve been using Lighting Launcher for a few months, and I really enjoy it. I’m an amateur user – I definitely don’t know many advanced features.

One question I have is with regards to the lock screen. Is there anyway to get the power key to turn off the screen without locking the screen, and honouring the Android timeout setting? Any updates that are possible with the lock screen?

  1. Not that I know of, besides a custom ROM. If I remember correctly CM ROMs had separate time to lock settings for power button and time out.

  2. OK, thanks so much for letting me know.

  3. Don’t know if this what you want, but if your wanting to do away with the lock screen you should check out gravity screen. I heard it doesn’t work with lollipop but I’m not sure on that.

  4. Hi Brandon, thanks for the suggestion. I’ve just installed Gravity Screen, and will test it out. Thanks!

  5. Steven Ekstein yeah no problem, I know some people love their lock screen, I for one hate them.. With a little tweaking gravity screen is a great alternative without the need of root, I’ve been using it for a long time and it works great with my device.

  6. I am rooted. I don’t love lock screens, but I just don’t want someone to see my data if I lose my phone. They can get annoying, for instance, when they activate during a phone call, etc. when it’s obviously me who is still using the phone! 😉 Thanks again.

  7. Oh I wasn’t saying you love lock screens… I use Tasker to lock specific apps, that way I don’t have to unlock my phone every time I want use it, the lazy in me I guess. 😉

  8. Can you please explain how you use Tasker to lock specific apps?  Would love to know how you do that… I find the documentation for Tasker unnecessarily complicated sometimes… 🙂

  9. Well first you have Tasker of course ; hit the + button to add a profile-call it whatever(lock apps) I guess, select application for the profile (you can select as many apps as you want) now select the done button and it will immediately ask you for a task. Hit + button for new task – again call it whatever (app lock) maybe, select display, then lock>done… You should get some options like a password, title, and allow cancel for someone that may have your phone and they stumble into your trap. That way they can just cancel out of the key pad, otherwise it’ll just stay on the key pad till you enter the correct pin.

  10. Steven Ekstein https://youtu.be/Qw4CmghwzTs here you go, my documentation is probably even more confusing, lol

  11. Hey Brandon, finally got around to it and your documentation was great. Thanks so much and sorry for the late response. Question – if tasker is disabled or removed, does this lock still work? I haven’t played around with it too much, but I got a lock working for one app…

    Thanks again!

  12. Steven Ekstein lock still works if Tasker’s disabled, don’t know about removing it though… I would have to say probably not though. Glad I could help.

  13. Steve Eksteindude I was wrong, if you disable Tasker it does not work, sorry.

  14. Kind of a problem if your “hacker” is smart, huh? Back to the drawing board!

  15. Steven Ekstein no you can lock taskers settings inside Tasker, or you can just use lock on Tasker as well… You’re good👍

  16. Steven Ekstein when your in Tasker just hit the little android in the bottom left… you should see the lock feature. also enable taskers device administrator to make impossible to remove via USB, that way you can’t remove it from the ‘manage apps dialog.’

  17. Got it – so now Tasker should lock on startup. Perfect, thanks so much for your efforts and help!

  18. Steven Ekstein all these steps will make it really hard on folks, but not really impossible… you would have to compile your own rom not rooted and make it impossible to remove (kind of like bloatware out of the box)

  19. Well, as long as it keeps out the average folk, I’m happy. Hackers will always be able to make their way around my phone better than I will. 😉 Thanks for your help!
