I’m doing the grand debate on wether to root my Nexus 6p. Are there any advantages to rooting as related to lightning launcher?

Thank you.

  1. Not really. You can execute root commands via script. It is easier to grant permissions to Lightning. That’s about it.

that is correct but has nothing to do with LL.

  3. Joe Mitchell if that were true, then you’d only be able to use LL on a rooted phone.

no, Lightning doesn’t depend on the apps it launches. (this would be against the principle of a launcher. ) However, if you make this kind of connection, Lightning would be related to every single app existing. So this is a  useless connection, which is why I didn’t mention it.

  5. Ah, I misread his statement.

    yeah I guessed that 😀

Bearcat Şándor generally a launcher won’t be a reason to root.

    Reasons are:

    – Backup (I use Titanium, but there are others)

    – SDMaid (The best device cleanup tool)

    – Xposed (If you can code, this means you can do whatever you want. If you can’t code, this means you can do everything someone else has already done)

    – Adaway (The best adblocker I have ever found, even better than most desktop adblockers)

rooting is for babies. just keep it stock, it’s a nice device and a nice OS

Adam clearly doesnt know what hes talking about probably never even tried it before i agree that its a nice device and a nice stock OS but rooting it will make it even nicer.

Few more to add to the list Lukas wrote.

    Change DPI

    uninstall bloat

    themes/mods/custom ROMS

    Full control over the device

I also agree with what he said about a launcher not being a reason to root.

  9. Jay M I’m so used to not having bloatware that I totally forgot about that.

Custom ROMs are not directly linked to root. Most devices can be flashed from recovery/fastboot regardless of rooting status.

  10. Thanks all. I knew about the other reasons to root, I was just wondering if the scripting in LL had gotten to a point where people were doing cool things with it that you couldn’t do with out rooting your device.

  11. One thing that probably could be done is switching live wallpapers directly in LL.
