New to ll and new here.
New to ll and new here. I love super customization and such, so I’m really loving ll. But there’s one thing going that I want that I cannot get to work. I’m sure it’s just me.
I want to be able to have an individual icon be swiped and have it have an action that is different from other actions. For example, I swipe up on the sms icon and it opens a folder with my direct dial contacts. I know how to make all that, and I long press the app and go into edit, and the gestures all say “unset”, like they should. But when I set that gesture, it overrides the main gesture to where my entire desktop is now doing that on swipe. I even lock the icon for editing and change the main one back, but it still overrides both ways. Is this a bug? Or did I misunderstand the capabilities of ll?
I may have figured it out. It appears that you have to set the action from the little popup dialogue as opposed to clicking into the settings page style menu, despite the fact that the settings menu has the exact same actions labeled. I guess doing that interferes with the main settings. So the function works, just not as context clues would have you believe. Glad I could figure it out at least.
If it’s changing everything for your desktop, then that means that your desktop and not your icon is selected when you edit the events.
As far as what you’re trying to do, I do the same thing. I would create a folder on your desktop with your direct dial contacts inside, go into edit mode and make sure that folder (the folder icon itself. Make sure you’re looking at your desktop and NOT inside the folder looking at your contacts) is selected and change two events. Change the tap event to launch an app (your SMS app) and the swipe up event to open the folder. You can even change the icon of the folder to that of your SMS app to make it nicer looking.
FYI, I would do it this way instead of trying to make the actual SMS app icon open the folder because you still have to create the folder and keep it somewhere, which means you’ll have that extra icon floating around somewhere anyway. This way one icon does the work of both tasks.
That is true, and I’m sure it would have dawned on me in about a year, thanks for saving me that time! My current setup was to put the folder on top of the text icon and make it transparent and unselectable, but this is better. So not a big deal, just another step.
And I know that the icon was selected, the only explanation I can think of was that the desktop was also selected? In which case, my self found advice of using the properties tab rings even truer to make sure you only are adjusting the thing you want to adjust.
Either way, thanks so much for the helpful advice!
