The bindings are awesome but IMO need support for tasker variables as well as the SMS, Calls and Email counts. Support for other app’s notification counts would be awesome too (like TeslaUnread for Nova Launcher).

AFAIK Tasker variables are only visible from Tasker (they are private), in the end you need to trigger some action if you want to notify some other apps that a tasker variable changes. I am not aware of any API allowing reading and being notified of Tasker variables changes.
I am thinking at a plugin to manage this kind of stuff like SMS, calls, etc.

Pierre Hébert I know zooper has access to tasker variables so it should be possible. The tasker documentation seems pretty non-existent though. :/
It would be really nice to be able to add the notification count directly to the item rather than having to use a separate item like you currently have to. It seems these newest changes are pushing it in that direction giving more control over elements and allowing for more complex stock widgets. Zooper will be pretty useless after this release IMO. 😀

I don’t think so, Zooper is only able to display the content of a tasker variable which has been sent previously.
Yes, the goal is to get rid of widgets, I don’t know whether this goal will be reached though.
Embedding a notification count into an item is however not what I would like to do. Grouping maybe, but having several components in a single item causes a lot of problems.
