I want to ask if this feature will be possible, and also if it’s useful for others, this is more personal than my other suggestions.

So, the problem is that I had a perfect layout with 8 rows, but when transparent bars were added (I like transparent bars) I needed to add more rows to keep the center with 8x rows with bars (a real math problem, I ended with 45 rows and not exactly)

Just before everybody ask: I don’t like to use free mode because I have a lot of apps, that fit perfect in the grid layout, I don’t want to calculate every position-size of every app.

Now, with the possibility to mix layout and edit mode, I have more control, but not enough. What I need is to have the layout computed only with the available screen size, but with the ability to put items under the transparent bars (not as in app drawer).

In case this is a bit confusing, the best feature that could be added is: custom layout (row1: 55px, row2: 100px, row3…) or an offset of the layout. (A layout with 55px offset at top will be enough)

This is a personal and particular request, but maybe other ideas can be extracted.

I also accept suggestions, but remember NOT free mode.

If I understand correctly, the idea would be to set individual row height and column width.

This could be done but I am not sure this would be the right way to do, because the more configuration you add to the grid, the nearest it is from the free mode. I would prefer to add tools to manipulate items in free mode such as multi selection, align, distribute and snap to screen edges.

As of today, and depending on your layout, you may use a desktop in free mode (yes I suggested free mode, sorry, but please continue reading 😉 ) and add three panels with their content layout with a grid: a small one behind the status bar, another one behind the navigation bar, and a main one between the two, so that it would be padded the right way. Vertical scrolling could be an issue though.

Thank you Pierre Hébert, I also thought about it, but using panels items will not go under the transparent bars. This is a personal requirement, so don’t worry.

However I think I can suggest a feature that can help me and also improve LL…yes, I think so. I’ll post it in a few minutes.
