Suggestion: How about an option when long press the background (the launcher menu) of a panel while in edit mode to edit the panel in full screen?

The preview of the settings show it in full screen, so…why not? Would it be possible?

This is possible except that the panel will use all the space to compute the grid, as a consequence it will not behave like folders in edit mode: rows and columns will be enlarged, but there won’t be more, and this won’t make editing easier. I need to find a solution so that panels can behave like folders.
