Does Titanium backup work for this?

So, what’s wrong with using backup/restore?

Freely quoting Pierre: “backup/restore is for the same device. Templates are for cross device share, because it helps scaling.”

I do this in two steps: first, export for apk to generate the archive named Template; then rename the template to something more descriptive either from the backup and restore menu, or from file explorer (templates are saved in the lightning launcher directory). It’s useful to come up with some kind of naming convention that indicates that the archive is a template rather than a backup. e.g. starting template file names with a meaningful prefix like “T_”

    Hope this helps.

Thanks Carolyn for describing my workaround. But I easily forget the second step. If a pop-up would come (like with backup) I would not.

Helen Jappie I completely misunderstood your issue… but yeah, that’s exactly what I do.

I agree. This is an inconsistency that, if remedied, would improve the launcher.

I backed up the settings on my nexus 5 to Drive. Then copied it back to the same folder on my nexus 7.

Then I imported it. Works fine. That said the installed applications on both devices are very similar.

If I’m not mistaken Pierre Hébert has mentioned some work to be completed on this subject.

I agree that the feature is missing some consistency. Maybe what could be done is gather the template and backup features in a single screen, something like two buttons: “Backup” and “Export”. Both things really need to be kept separate, but since they are related this makes sense to group them.
