Remove, but not resize to 1×1 items. (microsoft metro function 😉 ).

The last time I used a microsoft OS was several years ago, so to be honest I don’t have a clear idea of what metro is. (I think you mean move not remove) This is not so easy to do because of holes. I tried to implement this but this does not work well in many situations so I decided to not publish it.
