I’m doing some upgrade your default desktop for new users.

I’m doing some upgrade your default desktop for new users. I add panel with seamless y, add ll action for desktop config and go to hierrarchy screen and ask desktop to go to, and i add some hints (about html, about detach from grid, how remove white border from panel, how preset items for container, how use and set pin item).

If you need, i can sent you my backup. Pierre Hébert

The idea of the default desktop is to be simple, filling it with many items can be counterproductive.

Remember that this is what users see first, and giving them a lot of options at first will probably make them disconnect. This is the reason why the expert mode exists.

However, it is true that letting them discover the advanced functions can be fun and perfect for some people, like us, but not for most of them that simply will leave the default style.

Your ‘tutorial’ idea is a good one, so I’m going to suggest another thing to Pierre Hébert to discuss:

To have two default desktops, the simple current one which will be kept as the home desktop, and an advanced one (like Danbar’s one but tweaked to be different than the simple) where, if possible, all things that can be done in lightning will be in that desktop.

This makes a total of three desktops, with the default lock screen I mean.

I agree… but maybe add to desktop shortcut for restart container to empty situation,  and desktop will free for using…

or add to hint text for long tap script, for deleting this hints 😉

And second… I add only items used in normal mode.

I partly agree with TrianguloY , I prefer to keep the default setup fairly minimal.

But… I also like some Danbar Danbar more advanced ideas such as the panel used as a dock.

I will allow new users to customize a bit the default setup by choosing between 3 setups:

    – minimal

    – classic (the current one)

    – advanced (with a panel as a dock, more sample/hint items, etc.)

And maybe a fourth option would be a wizard but I am not sure yet.

I need to improve a few things first.

    Good idea!

Maybe also if advanced is chosen turn expert mode on by default (it should be said when choosing)

Also, I’ll use this discussion to throw another (old?) suggestion:

Currently we have a ‘reset desktop’ that removes all items and loads the default theme.

What about, when clicking that, allow the user to choose between:

    Blank desktop (current behavior)

Default desktop (If you implement the multiple default desktops, an entry for each of them)

    Default lock screen
