I guess this is a problem with devices which have more than one (virtual) SDCard…
I think let the user select the backup folder is a good idea.
Algis Olberkis as workaround you can try to move the Lightning folder to the external sdcard and then create a symlink to it on the internal one.

I just found out symlinks ar enot supported on FAT16/FAT32 partitions, so i cant try it out…
FX File Explorer can create symlinks, maybe that helps

I use the app Redirect for these sort of things.

u can redirect whole folders to specific location. only certain files of a certain extension . copy or move the files.
it recently has got tasker integration. which is not fully functioning yet. but it can trigger a task to start all of your redirects.
