Suggested Feature & Huge Thanks.

Suggested Feature & Huge Thanks.

First, I have to say that I’m a huge fan of Lightning Launcher. It’s rock solid reliable, looks great, and makes my phone as practical to use as I want it.  I went through just about every launcher in the App Store before settling on Lightning, and I love it.  It’s one of the few freebie apps that have inspired me to hit the donate button.

Two suggestions, and I apologize if either have been discussed (I did poke around a bit looking for these suggestions first.)

Practical Suggestion:  When adding items to a folder or desktop, would it be possible to select multiple items at once?  That would make setting things up much faster, and I have seen it implemented elsewhere.  An even better trick would be to add multiple direct dial/text shortcuts at once.

Impractical, but Awesome:  Is there any way to use animated GIFs as icons on the desktop?  I already love showing off how gorgeous AND practical my homescreen is…  Tiny dancing icons would just blow people’s minds!

Thanks again for all your hard work Mr. Hébert!

I bin thinking about this and i don’t think Android Widgets support animations so I doubt an icon would either.

Haha if you have tasker you could take a screenshot of your Homescreen (without the icons) and create a Scene with your screenshot and add some animated gifs i reckon it would look pretty convincing especially if you made the gifs launch apps and stuff.

Very cool! That’s very much along the lines to what I was thinking. These may have to be widgets that open folders… I don’t know.

I used to make animated GIFs for fun back in the early days of the Web. I have folders on my home screen with direct dial & message shortcuts for different groups of contacts (wife, management team, friends etc.) If this were implemented, I’d make one where my boss morphs into Satan… I’m certain he’d get a kick out of that! Ha!

I could have my 5 year old dancing for the family one, wife winking etc… Tiny 5 frame GIFs would be enough.

Thanks for your encouragement Brian Ruppel 🙂

Regarding batch add, there is a trick which is not as fast as checkbox, but you may find it useful anyway: when adding an app from the desktop, you are asked to pick one, but you can long tap and select add multiple tap before to single tap the last item or hit back. Long tap may be slower than multi selection but at least you stay in the app picker.

Having animated elements is a nice suggestion, I like it ! I am not sure what the support of GIF in Android is across versions, but after a quick search it seems easy. Most probably it could more or less fit in the classic icon customization.

Pierre Hébert , Thanks for the reply! I can’t seem to get the multiple select to work. Do I need the LL app drawer or other add on?

Thanks again for your hard work! You’ve earned a walking/talking advertisement in me!

Nothing more needed, once you are in the app drawer, just long tap and select add to launcher, multiple times.
