The dynamic text for unread text messages keeps telling me that I have an unread message but I don’t. Is there a way to force it to update?

A restart of the app will force the item to reread the value. If it does not change then it means that the count is ok.

I don’t know exactly what you mean by restart app, but I tried to long press on the messenging app to kill it then open it again with no change. I went into app settings to force close but that option was greyed out. Then I removed the dynamic text and put it back again and that finally got it to reset.
Could this be a problem with the gingerbread messenger? I could try something like Handcent if that might help.

Quick update. Just got a text message and the dynamic correctly changed to 1. Deleted the message and I’m stuck at 1 again.
Another update. Got yet another text and the dynamic text stayed at 1 instead of going to 2. Then I got another message and the dynamic text went to 2. What this tells me is that it only changes the value when a text comes in. So each time I get a new message it shows the correct number but deleting messages won’t change anything. It appears that it’s impossible to have it say 0 unless I remove and then replace the dynamic text.

I am afraid this is a bug on the messaging side: LL read the value and nothing more, hence if it is updated, then it means that LL receives the notification with the value, but the value is wrong.

I have something that will work for me now. I installed Handcent and froze the default messenging app. It still doesn’t change the dynamic text when I delete messages but in Handcent If can hit the menu button and choose to mark all as read. That resets the dynamic text.

I see what you mean about restarting the app now. I have it set up to restart Handcent when I swipe up on it. Not sure if that would work with stock app but probably. Thanks for the help!

Ok I found the problem and fixed it. Strangely the messaging app reports that the message has been read before to actually update the count, lol.

Maybe a rookie question: Is there a program to install besides LL to get unread message / missed call counter to work?
