How do I edit default item values?

How do I edit default item values?

Used to be, there was an item under desktop settings that would let me set default values like padding, whether labels and icons were shown, etc.

Now I can’t find it.

I’ve spent half an hour looking, but I can’t find it.

I’m sure it’s somewhere obvious, but I’d appreciate it if someone could point it out to me.

Deselect item, edit same as single item.

Edit in container, with no item selected… To put it slightly differently.

Pierre Hébert Do you think there’d be a more intuitive way? This question was asked often lately.

May be a button “items” or “item defaults” or somewhere in the onscreen editor when editing a container. I don’t know.

Lutz Linke It’s not necessarily unintuitive. Indeed it makes sense that if nothing is selected then the next “nearest” (containing) object be the target of edits.

I think it’s just different from how it used to be, and so is jarring to those (like me) who remember the “old days.”

If anything is added, though, perhaps just some kind of visual cue or feedback that its the “container” that’s being edited.

Filippo Salustri Yes, in that respect it is intuitive. And logical. Once you got it. Still you have to take a close eye on wether something is selected or not.

An idea Pierre Hébert : maybe color code the active item shown in the editor. Like blue if it’s a folder, red if it’s an item etc. Or show an icon (the same from the add dialog). So it’s easier to grasp the context.
