When I create a folder and set the folder icon style to “stack”, the background of the folder icon is a dark grey colour. How can I change this, preferably to be invisible? That is, so just the stack of icons inside the folder is shown?

You mean the background in the “box” properties? Because that just seems to set the colour behind the rounded grey square I’m talking about. I’ll see if I can get a good screenshot.

And here’s what happens when I change the background (I’ve made it red so you can see the different area it’s affecting).

Jason Heeris no. In the icon tab, under the Layers section, choose background image.

Then at the top of the picker, tap the paint pallet icon and drag the alpha slider to transparent.

Chris Chastain I don’t have a ‘Layers’ section under the icon tag.

Hmm. If I long press and select “Customize Icon” there’s a palette icon that brings up a colour chooser. The first time I drag the slider to fully transparent on that, the icons in the grid or stack disappear. But the second time I do it, the folder icon background disappears. So, it works, but it’s a bit confusing that the same procedure does two different things like that.

I enabled expert mode and your instructions worked, thanks! And don’t worry, the list will start to get shorter one day 😉
