how can i disable the shadow around an icon when i tap it? it’s in the shape of the grid but i can’t find the setting. thanks.

You have to go into edit mode. Hold down on the desk top tap the pencil icon. Then the paintbrush icon. Go to misc in the properties box and there you can find a setting for constraining the ripple. I will try to post screen shots.

I don’t think that will remove the shadow completely but it won’t be a square anymore.
In the box settings, you can make it transparent
