Hi everybody

Hi everybody

With LLX just installed, I cannot add any panel. They are available only when I download a theme and delete all elements. How can I get panels with a clean LLX installation?

Regards

no offense but this is getting old. I’ve seen way too many people asking this question so I have a solution : a feature request to have expert mode selected automatically by default, that way it wont be an issue anymore.

I second that Curtis. I had LLX installed on my phone for almost a year then when I got a new one it took me a couple of minutes to figure out why I couldn’t do what it normally would. Can only imagine what new users feel.

Pierre Hébert I agree with them. The expert mode was meant to help new users, but it seems more like it’s confusing users.

Does anyone use LL with expert mode disabled at all?

like I said it’s no offense but too many people have been wondering why they can’t add panels or other things. some automatically thought expert mode WAS selected by default and forgot they had to select it. but I think it’s true that nobody uses llx without that option checked. if they do its because they didn’t know it wasn’t checked.

Or: at the first launch of llx, display a dialog to ask the user if he wants to enable the expert mode or not (with a listview with some functionality available in expert mode)

Yeah i think it should be as basic as possible but like Benoît de Chezelles said a dialog (maybe non cancelable) welcoming the user and explaining how to enable/disable expert mode would be nice, maybe have the user type in a Randomly generated # to dismiss the dialog. This pretty much guarantees the user will read the message and will understand that features are limited untill there ready to enable the advanced stuff.

I also think expert is a bit of a scary word, advanced mode would be better.

I agree with that last sentence.

I think dialogs can be dismissed with the home button anyways I think its only back/menu that can be blocked so that ^ wouldnt work.

Edit: Nope Home button doesn’t do anything recents button hides it though but soon as you go back to LLX its still there so your forced to cancel it, i made a test script works well. Might be a bad idea though, some people are goons and would probably see it as a PITA Instead of helpfull.

Agreed. Although 90% of requests are revolving around panels. I was planning to move back panels in the “not advanced” mode, but I will probably add a checkbox to this first time dialog too (I changed my mind about that) and rename it to advanced, that’s a good idea.

Pierre Hébert personally I was thinking that since there’s so many advanced users anyway to just do away with advanced mode all together. the reason for this is because just about everyone uses the mode anyway so no need for it. basically just remove it. but on the other hand we do have some who are not advanced {a small percentage if im not mistaken} but then there’s tutorials for that percentage as well. but then there’s the description in the playstore that says something about a learning curve and not being a traditional launcher (not for the user wanting simple or something) part of me doesn’t agree with advanced mode because the basic user should’ve known this wasn’t going to be a simple launcher but another part says that perhaps some options should only be made available to those who are. then another part that says perhaps the basic user just wanted to test themselves and see what they can do. another part says……

by now I’d guess you get the idea. I’m having mixed thoughts about where this is going.

I guess I’m saying that I don’t what to think about the idea. maybe I have the wrong perspective on it.

Oh I know. we can still have the advanced mode yeah. make everything available for basic users but then change the option so when unchecked it brings up a dialog for everything and will only stop showing up once that box is checked. YEAH

gets what I’m thinking now that I run it through. you get a new user. they can use everything but everytime they do a box comes up explaining how to use it. and then when they feel like they don’t need the explanation anymore they check that box and bye bye tutorials

This launcher is huge. When I first got it I had no idea what I was in for. I know zero about scripting and didn’t know that it would be a fantastic feature. But I read every thing and long pressed everything for tutorials. Most people won’t do that because they are used to the other launchers.

Maybe have advanced mode on automatically but give a pop up explanation when they click an advanced feature.

Curtis Sylvester Jr. , indeed most LLX users are necessarily advanced users, but LLX also needs to be accessible to peoples that are not expecting a so large number of options. A fair number of users are willing to learn but are frightened by the scary options at first. One step at a time may help in this case. Making LLX more accessible while keeping its singularities is a key for the app to survive.

I agree. I just figured since just about everyone uses that option anyway there may be no point in really having it. but then again I’m having mixed thoughts so
