Yesterday I flashed my first KitKat ROM, restored LLX with Titanium Backup and noticed it’s not as smooth as it used to be (previous ROM was stock Samsung 4.1.2, I’m on Galaxy S3) By not smooth I mean folder animations are a bit stuttering, not fluid. Is that some known KitKat issue or what else could be the problem?

I don’t think this is related with KK since it behaves well on my N7 2012, but it might have a link with your ROM anyway. Unlike scrolling, folder animations are fully managed by the system. Did you notice some problems with scrolling too, or is it only for folders open/close ?

Experienced the same symptoms. I have a Moto G with stock KitKat. The symptoms came out after I rooted, and installed Xposed framework + Gravitybox, and made some customizations. After noticing this only happens while charging, turning on and off a lots of things, I found the cause.

In short, the problem was that I changed the battery icon in the status bar to circle + percent.

This indicator has a rotating animation while charging, and somehow this was too much for the system, causing lags in LL.

So if you happen to have this option in the ROM you installed, maybe this is it.

I thought I found what was causing the issue.KitKat has the new experimental runtime management feature which doesn’t use Dalvik, but a new thing called ART. I don’t really understand it, but it certainly makes apps load and run faster. I thought this was the culprit, as switching back to dalvik seemed to help, but now I feel the issue still remains.

BTW, I reinstalled LLX fresh from Google Play just to make sure it wasn’t the Titanium Backup issue, didn’ t help

sorry for not answering the question sooner, but no, there is no problem with scrolling. For the moment I’ve disabled animations altogether and will test it again when I flash another ROM to see if it’s ROM related (animations in stock launcher app drawer that came with the ROM seemed to work OK, though)

Unfortunately folders in the stock launcher and folders and in LL are unrelated because LL is not based on the stock launcher, unlike most other existing launchers, and as a consequence  it doesn’t give any hint on what could be wrong.

One thing I noticed however is that on some devices, a rotated element had huge impacts on performances, could it be the case in your setup ?
