We are now getting the nth question about how to change/remove the default border of a panel.
Here is an idea.
Folders have a little info text in them by default, when they are added.
What about having the panels that too? But for them the info would be about how to remove the border.

I don’t get it!
No one told me how to use LL. I know there are video tutorials but never saw them, I get bored quickly.
Isn’t there a video showing how to set borders padding and margins?
If folders start with a background why do panels start with borders?
Maybe we need a wiki or a FAQ.

Bogdan Tautu No one told me either. But it’s hard for me to understand why setting border of items is a hard thing to find, or why a tutorial is even needed for that. It’s such a basic feature.
But then I know about myself, that I’m not exactly an ‘average’ or ‘normal’ user.
Also, I’m using LL for a long time so for me the additions of new features were gradual, learning just a few new features every time there is an update is easier. And you can believe, LL has come a long way.
On the other hand, I am the type for whom this kind of thing (Not finding a function) is almost never a problem. It’s simply a matter of taking your time, and walking through the app. Looking into every menu, option, submenu, discovering all the possibilities. I’m doing this with every new application, and program that I try, and not just on Android.
I just see that relatively lots of people asks the same quuestion. +The last time this same question was asked was only two posts away from yours.
So there must be a reason why people don’t know how to set the border of items, that’s why I came up with the idea.

Gábor Barta Totally agree, but I’m also the type of user that normally press options before start 😛
LL is a launcher of settings, and I like it because there are a lot of launchers of ‘install and use’. This is something users need to know, and in general they do, but of course there is the question: What happens with the others? Do they just need to choose a different launcher? Do LL need to give them more information and explanations even of the things that seems ‘obvious’ for others? Will this ‘help’ displease advanced users?
It’s hard to balance things like that, but Pierre know it and he’s trying to do so. To be honest I also thought similar when saw the ‘how to remove borders’ post.

There is a wiki and these kind of things would go in it, but at the moment it’s a work in progress.

Sometimes, I am tempted to take a different approach.
Sometimes I would like to remove the panel feature so that a few peoples would not be tempted to kill the app with 1star comments because they don’t know why there are border lines and don’t know how to remove them, even though the feature does not even exist in other launchers.
But hey, what does it means in reality ? It means that this launcher is not adapted to this kind of people, and I can’t do anything about this. Even with a “Tutorial” folder on the center of the screen, peoples that don’t want to think don’t take the time to open this folder. That’s a fact. This is not possible to make something complex looks easy. At least I lost the hope to do this with this app.
A simple observation: the more feature are added to the app, the more the average rating is decreasing. And there is no secret in this. A launcher that does nothing will manage to do it very well very easily.
My objectives at the moment are more to add things that matter, and then if I can get enough time and energy I will try to make the thing more accessible.

You can’t please everyone in this world so stick with those that appreciate what you do 🙂 Anyone who is curious enough (me) with very little knowledge can work out how things work with a little effort & plain old trial & error 😉

I completely agree with Dino but unless this community starts actively donating more to Pierre and his fine work he will eventually have to switch focus to making the app more accessible. I personally believe this to be the most complete, functional, and easily the most custom launcher out there. That on top of the fact that the file size is SO tiny makes this the best launcher by far.
There are things missing of course that many people look for such as fancy animations while scrolling and what not and I can admit I wasn’t a fan of getting rid of them either initially. Although I think Android in general will take a much more streamlined and minimal approach with further versions and launchers like LLX will thrive.
I have had a few ideas on how to make the app more accessible without much coding or work done on Pierre’s part and will post soon what I think would help out.
Ultimately I think it falls on this community to put in some footwork and help him out. There is a wiki out there but it is so incomplete and lacks any real helpful information to new users of LL.

The tutorial section of G+ is nice and all but lacks any real structure and has no ability to navigate to find what you want easily.

As stated above, we’re all invited to share to this community. Use the wiki above, or the one I started jusr before Pierre opened his. It’s totally empty for the moment, but maybe easier to work with? (They both look messy on my mobile, can’t decide which is better).

Kjell Hensman I wasn’t even aware of the wiki you started on wikia. I probably missed some post. Please cancel it, as on http://www.pierrox.net/android/applications/lightning_launcher/wiki/ the structure is quite complete. It should have a nice layout for mobile (works great on my phone at least).
