In a recent post it was discussed that the new animation for move items in the beta could be improved.
These are some ideas I was thinking, and maybe you like them or not.
1)When you click an item, after some milliseconds(in case you just want to scroll the screen) it will become slightly smaller. This will help to know if you clicked or not. (The animation should not be played if the item is set to ‘do nothing’)
2)When you long press an item, it will become smaller (because of 1) and after that it will become bigger to show that you can move it (the actual animation in the beta)
3) when you swipe from an item to perform the swipe action…What about a small animation in the direction you swiped? (I mean, like a small shake) Note that if you are a bit slow when swiping, the animation 1 will be played with this one. But shouldn’t be a problem (just stop 1 or mix both)
Yes, I like animations 😀

I personally like 1 and 3 but I don’t feel like either should be set as default. Just have an option for animation within the customize menu under the location where you define what happens when you swipe up, tap, etc.
2 sounds like a good idea as well but in free mode I’d like to see the current animation gone or tweaked. Trying to quickly move items without geometry is currently quite difficult, especially stop points.

I like animations too… But one step at a time, a new beta is on it’s way, we’ll see how it goes with this one 😉
Generally speaking, LL lacks a lot of animations. On one hand I would like to add more for eye candy, on the other hand I must admit that I am a bit reluctant at adding too much, some of them are expensive (shake is one of them).

Of course.
I just ‘throw’ ideas. You are the one who need to transform them into code 😉 (and keep it small…I’m still amazed how can LLX be ~500 kb)

Animation in editing mode are okay and helpful. But if adding animations in normal mode… allow to disable. Personally I mostly have animations disabled, for overscroll, and even in Android Developer Settings. I like my phone snappy.

Pierre Hébert by expensive do you mean that they would take much space in the apk, or some other consideration?

Gábor Barta, not to speak for him, but he probably is referring to cpu/gpu load.

Yes, this will affect dynamic usage of resources, ram and cpu. This need time to code as well of course ;-). Shake or wobble animations as seen in some other launchers (TrianguloY were you thinking at the Sony one by the way ?) will generally be implemented using some sort of opengl animation, and this is expensive.

Pierre Hébert Emmm, no, I think no. (I never use a Sony mobile/tablet) I try to suggest only new ideas, but I don’t know a lot of launchers (Go in the past, LL now and some little ones that I tried) so maybe some ideas are in others…sorry.

I asked this because Sony’s launcher behaves a bit like your suggestions, so these must be good ideas !
