If is user in edit menu for desktop, folder or panel, in customize items… Everytime is visible text no option.
You can add option from item menu (hierarchii, compact, sort az, za) .
Second idea…
If is user in edit mode and open some folder (maybe click to panel) please open this container automatically in edit mode too.

I prefer to display nothing, so that it is predictable and consistent. I understand this is a good place to put more useful stuff, but that makes things less easy to understand. At least this is the way I see the thing at the moment… That might change…

Regarding folders and panels, yes, I am thinking at something like this too, this is very annoying to leave edit mode and enter again.
