Make any transparent items semi – transparent in edit mode so that the user can find them easily instead of going through the hierarchy. Just like stop points getting visible in edit mode.
This might not add any value for the experienced users but might be useful for beginners.

There is a button in the bottom edit bar to enforce a minimum opacity. It could be turned on by default, but then setting transparency to 0 would seem to be not working.
