In the app drawer we can uninstall an item by long pressing an app icon and choosing uninstall, could this also work for the bin icon? I just think it would be quicker/easier and it makes sense to me because we bin stuff we don’t want and while I no that icon doesn’t do anything I can’t stop trying to uninstall apps that way.

I don’t agree, for me the bin icon do an action that can be undone… If we choose to uninstall an app, this cannot je undone…

I suggested that, and I think Pierre doesn’t liked it much.

My Opinion: Pointless Buttons are bad design iac. I think this should either uninstall the app (with a warning “cannot be undone”) or it should be hidden.

This is not a pointless button, it is a disabled one.

What I think that makes the confusion is that it seems to be enabled (the only difference is the vertical line at the left), but clicking it does nothing.

I’m going to suggest another two suggestions:

    1) make the icon lighter like the disabled buttons in the ‘add’ pop-up.

    2) change the button to a ‘uninstall’ one (not sure how a uninstall button is…) so it uninstalls the app instead

Well, but isn’t a button which is always disabled pointless?

I’m fine with your suggestions, I like the second one most of what was suggested until now.

Lukas Morawietz it is not disabled when that menu is opened from another container not in the app drawer 😉

(Yes, it is pointless in the app drawer, but to keep consistency I agree that the menu need to be the same as in any other container, or at least very similar)

This button is not always disabled since it can be used to remove page indicators and folders but anyway I agree it could be replaced with something more useful for the vast majority of items which are apps. Best would be to use another icon, maybe a cross instead of a bin
