Could you elaborate further on what is meant by portrait wallpaper?

i have this gripe, the lightening launcher wallpaper option is square, doesn’t allow change of selection shape

kieran rae , yes that’s true for the system wallpaper ( I presume to allow scrolling). The desktop wallpaper overrides the system wallpaper and doesn’t have that issue.

the desktop wallpaper doesn’t override it. i’ve tried using both the stock android, gallery + lightening launcher routes to select a portrait wallpaper, + every time, the lightening launcher zooms in to use a square area ignoring my selection.

^this is square vs portrait. And yes, quare is more… optimal? but as you can see not every wallpaper looks good square shaped. And like said

kieran rae , you have 2 (or more) wallpapers if you use desktop. Furthermore desktop wallpaper works like cookie cutter – it will cut as much as you need from centre of picture, so you must resize her first if you want whole picture.

Yeaah I no what you ment and i would also like this but as a work around I just use a live wallpaper but tbh i normally use a solid black color for my wallpaper anyway so it doesn’t bother me.

What I do and I guess what most people do, is to resize /crop wallpaper to screen size first. I’ve just always done this because it gives more precise control.

i use a small, ad-free app from the play store that gets around the problem. hide it from the ‘all apps’ drawer + then when you’re in your gallery/file browser selecting a wallpaper, just share the selected image to the app + presto!

I don’t say it is my life goal to  have it, but its so common now in launchers, and yes I know there are programs like wallpaper wizardi, I just don’t want have tons of apps just for one purpose. Its one of reasons  I buy LLX. Second: I usually crop wallpapers on my desktop or some app, but first I want to know how it will feel on my phone, and its MUCH more easer to not crop on desktop/app each time I want to know how it will work witch icons/widgets/size of screen, and maybe move elements after. I know maybe its kinda chaotic, so:

    TL;DR

It’s easer for me to have build-in set to portrait wallpaper, because reasons.
