Beta Tester wanted !
Better template sharing using APK is coming. What it does mean is that it will be possible to download APKs from the Play Store and apply them in LL. The opposite is also true: it will be possible to export a setup from LL and share it on Google Play, with all the inherent benefits for themers.
The Theme Manager app will be deprecated soon in favor of this alternate and better way to share templates. It will continue to work but the app will be unpublished.
Support for widgets is better than in the theme manager but still limited yet: starting at Android 4.1 LL will be able to recreate widgets, but not their data. I hope to improve this in the future.
Curiously for a beta, this version also contains a lot of bug fixes ! So it should be quite safe to use, as only the template related part is new. If you don’t use templates, then it will probably run better that the current 8.3 !

Also with this new functionality I have a new feature request: the ability to set an event or gesture to launch a default app type (the music player the user has set as default, default browser, etc.) instead of launching a specific app that another person may not have.

Cameron Brown this is a bit more complex than that. Of course if you have a file (an uri) this is possible. But most of the time you just want to launch the browser, the camera, the email app but you don’t have a document. Then the only way is to try Browser, Chrome Dolphin, Email, K9, etc.

Please remember that currently widget data are not exported. In particular zooper widgets will be remembered and recreated (android 4.1+) but they will need to be reloaded / reconfigured.
