Time to switch!
The new Lightning Launcher Community is now officially open! Head towards https://community.lightninglauncher.com/ : this is a brand new phpBB forum which, I think, will bring us full satisfaction.
From now on please avoid creating new posts here as I’m going to archive the content of this community in the coming days. Anything modified here after the backup will be lost.
I hope you will enjoy this new forum!

]]>Dear all
Google+ is shutting down soon. Please help me select a new home for the community as I don’t see many obvious options yet.
Each option has its pros and cons but none of them fully fill the bill.
At the moment my preference goes to a good old bulletin board. One one hand I can setup a phpBB (or other?) instance easily, it’s independent and packed with well enough features. On the other hand it requires a new account and might be overwhelming for newcomers. I’m not too attracted by existing forums which have the same drawbacks, but without the benefits.
Next I thought at facebook groups. A lot of people have a facebook account, so it’s easy to join a group. Also it’s probably very easy to setup and follow. But… as I don’t use facebook myself, I don’t know exactly how it works exactly and whether it would be a good option or not.
Similar to a forum is google groups, but I don’t like this option. It’s outdated, slow as hell and I’m not 100% sure that it will not follow the same path as G+ soon.
Next are other social networks, but they mostly share the same issues: need a new account, lack of independence, no personal experience (but yours matter).
Please tell me what are your preferences (and don’t restrict yourself to the selection above). Also this new community, wherever it will be, will need moderators. Who is interested in taking this role ?
]]>V14.3 beta
This beta version introduces experimental support for nested scrolling in panels.
For this to work, you need to set “Overscroll animation” to None (in the Scroll/zoom options screen) in the inner container, otherwise it will not work.
Feedback welcome!

]]>V14.2.1 stable
A new version with a required update due to Google Play policy change, and two fixes:
– remove READ_CALL_LOG and READ_SMS permissions because their use in launchers is now forbidden by the Google Play Store policy. A dialog box with a workaround will be displayed in case these permissions are needed (in badges)
– fix the floating desktop on Oreo, thanks to TrianguloY
– partially fix the issue with the app drawer not being automatically updated upon app (un)install on Oreo
I wasn’t too sure I could still code in Java, build an APK and publish it on the Play Store, but hey, it’s like riding a bike: it can’t be forgotten!

]]>V14.2b2 Surprise… new beta!
That’s mainly an update to fix issues with Oreo. It builds upon the previous beta version but there are more than simple corrections in it.
My development tools had to go through a full update in order to support Oreo. As I hadn’t done this for a while, I discovered that a lot of things have changed… It took more gigabytes to download/install than I thought it was possible, and also a few more surprises, but at last it’s running now.
What’s new in this update:
– fix for Oreo adaptive icons
– rework of the translations loader, due to changes in build system
– minor change in how system bars are handled in Oreo
– built with newest Android tools
Hopefully it won’t break too much things, but make a backup before to update please. That’s a healthy precaution since I’m not too available these days.
Regarding the previous beta: did anybody play with the SVG stuff? Was there big issues in this version that requires fixing?
Have fun!
]]>Dear Community
Apologize for my long silence… It’s time for an update. Let’s make it short and clear so that it doesn’t become too boring 😉
My current availability is near zero. Since I’m the only developer of the app, the natural consequence is that the project is on hold. And as far as I can see, this isn’t going to change before 4 full months. I’m really missing Android apps development in general, and this community in particular, but most probably I won’t be back before end of March or beginning of April 2018. At the very best I’ll only be able to release some quick emergency update at the end of the year, but even that is not a certain thing.
Still, I’m worried about the current status of the app, which has some important issues that require fixing. And if I recall correctly there’s also a beta in progress… but that’s another issue! Trying to find a way to go on, but I can only see two options. Either find someone to help me on the project, or make the project open source. Both options have major difficulties though, so nothing is really progressing yet.
To sum up: the project is not dead, but on hold. I’m willing to resume it and I’m currently considering several options. However nothing is done yet.
I’m afraid this isn’t very good news… although not so bad neither maybe! Anyway, I’d like to warmly thank people in this community for their involvement. Without any doubt, there would be no Lightning Launcher without this community. Thanks!
]]>V14.2b1 beta
New in this beta version : support for SVG images 🙂
Well, not the full SVG specification, which is a giant beast, but a lean and mean subset which will allow loading quite a few images anyway.
The list of supported SVG features is available here http://www.lightninglauncher.com/wiki/doku.php?id=images
But maybe the fun part is not in the SVG images themselves, but in the fact they can be altered using scripts and bindings. I hope this will be an entertaining tool to build dynamic elements!
Please note this is a work in progress. V14.2b1 already contains most important features, but script APIs are somewhat basic, some other are missing. I’m waiting for your feedback to judge whether those missing parts are worth of interest or not. That means: if you think that something is missing or not working, don’t hesitate to let me know.
Beta APIs can be found here: http://www.lightninglauncher.com/scripting/reference/api-beta/
Have fun!
