Server issue!

I am sorry the server hosting the Lightning Launcher web site, e-mail and other related services is currently down 🙁 As a result online help, wiki, documentation and other resources are unavailable.

As December 24th is not exactly the right time for a server to fail, I’m afraid it will take time to resume it (up to 7 days! :-(( ), sorry for the inconvenience.

Lightning Launcher V14.1

This new version features a brand new action configuration screen. It is easier to use and more powerful, allowing multiple actions to be executed for a single event, without the need for a script. Miscellaneous bug fixes will improve the stability as well, so it’s the right time to update 🙂

Lightning Launcher V14

After several months of work and alpha/beta testing, I am proud to announce Lightning Launcher V14!

This is a big step forward, with many improvements, great new features and a huge overhaul of the internal architecture.

Under the hood, the new architecture will deliver more performance and more stability. But before all, it is designed to offer strong foundations for future evolutions, because the mobile world is itself constantly evolving.

This is an invisible change, but some other new features are much more prominent:

• Lightning offers a new object type: plugins. Think at plugins like “lightweight widgets”. These are ready to use, custom components that you can add to your home screen. When adding a new item, swipe to the plugins tab and select a plugin to create one. Since plugins are based on scripts, they can do pretty great things, and plus, they can be customized. As the list of existing plugins grows, you can expect great stuff from them.

• Thanks to the new architecture, Lightning can now be used as a custom Live Wallpaper. You can put a desktop as your Android background, with all Lightning capabilities, including scrolling panels, scripts and full support for widgets. This feature is a paid one in order to support the app’s development.

• For users of Android 7.1, Lightning brings the App Shortcuts functionnality as a standard action, so that you can easily link it to your prefered gesture (long press, swipe, or anything else). To pin a shortcut, long press, then drag and drop it on the desktop.

• V14 also comes with various improvements, such as a faster app drawer startup. On the script side, the engine received a myriad of new features, allowing to write easier and better code, as well as allowing a deeper integration with the launcher, thanks to customizable popup menus for instance.

I hope you’ll like this new version. As always don’t hesitate to report bugs or suggest a feature.

Lightning Launcher V12.8.1

Just a minor update to to fix a few bugs.

I am glad to announce Lightning Launcher V12.8!

This new version brings two major enhancements which are animated GIFs and fullscreen panel edition.

With animated GIF, it’s easy to add a bit of fun and eye candy in your desktop. And since GIFs can be controlled from script, this can also be used to create special effects.

Panels are now edited using the full screen estate, just like folders. This makes it easy to move and customize items, even in the tiniest panel. I hope this will make docks, sliding windows, or object groups creation a much more pleasant experience.

Beside that, there is also an improved script editor and new image handling APIs to use with scripts. These are geeky tools, but its nevertheless a lot of fun to play with!

Lightning Launcher V12.7

I am pleased to release Lightning Launcher 12.7 with cool new stuff. 

There are tons of enhancements and bug fixes in it, but probably the most important things are:

– support for persistent icon pack: each new icon added in the container will be automatically themed with the icon pack set in the settings (as long as the icon pack is still installed)

– a new hierarchy screen displaying all desktops and all items in a “hierarchical” view, allowing easy move and reorder.

– various goodies like HTML labels, Google account selection for unread GMail badges, a new app launch animation option

– more Android 6 support (work in progress)

New things are already in the pipe for 12.8, stay tuned…

A new version of Lightning Launcher is online, with the brand new “Floating Desktop” feature! It remained a long time in beta, but it’s now available in the stable channel for everyone – version 12.6. Hooray!

A floating desktop is a desktop that can be displayed anywhere, anytime. Just swipe from an edge of your screen and the floating desktop will be displayed above any other app, always ready to launch apps or display widgets, just when you need it. And since this is a Lightning desktop, you can use pretty much the same features as found in a regular desktop: widgets, folders, panels, scripting and so on. Enjoy!
