All,

I would like to resume a project for which I need a little help!

A few months ago I started to build a simple “directory” for Lightning, a place to find content. The reason is that it’s too hard to find good stuff. Templates, scripts, tools are all scattered everywhere and there is no comprehensive database of what has been made nor where it can be found. Looking for something in the Play Store is like looking for a needle in a haystack. On the G+ community, the search feature is inefficient and tons of great posts get lost in the g+ history.

So what I did was to create a small wordpress web site, created a few post categories and started to add some entries. I left this directory in draft during several months, and now I would like to resume it.

This is where I need your help: I can’t remember everything. If you are yourself the author of a template, a script or a post and you would like to see it listed here, or more generally, if you remember some valuable content that it would be a shame to forget (even if you’re not the author), please let me know about it!

The directory can be found here: http://directory.lightninglauncher.com/ . To suggest a content, please use the page here: http://directory.lightninglauncher.com/content-suggestion/ or my e-mail.

Thanks!

I gave up on Lightning Launcher! It is the biggist pain in the ass launcher i ever downloaded. I dont have time to wast trying to figure out how to use it. It makes no sense to me, im not a fucking computer expert, i just want to make my android look nice. I use Nova, or Buzz launcher. They are perfect for what i need.

Rich F every user has different needs. That’s the beauty of android that you get what you want. You like nova go for it. Even I love Nova. Themer was good, buzz is not. If you like more simplicity but with options try Total launcher also.

I dont know this code sht, and java script, it is discouraging me fron trying to use the launcher. It seems a little ridiculous to go through all this to use it. Its like i have to make everything from scratch. I cant even visually comprehend a look, a final theme, because ther is too much going on. I keep getting side tracked by trying to learn how this ridiculous launcher functions. Im sure it must look great if you already know how to navigate around this thing.

The thing i like about nova, its got a little of everything in a launcher, and its smooth, and dependable. I am getting boardwith it. Tbe thing with buzz is i like the fact the screens can all have a different wallpaper. I havent seen tht in any other of tbe 20 or so launchers i tryed. Can lighting launcher have a different wallpaper on every screen? If so i want to get it going on.that would be a big plus in its favor, for me anyway! I some how got a window on my screen, on the LL, i must have tried to get this thing going 5-6 times already. I would get frustrated with it then uninstalled it over and over.tben go vack to buzz, or apex, or nova, or next, and so on.

  6. The consepts in LL are simple yet actually quite profound at the same time. Once you can get a handle on what the choices are in front of you, well.. the skies the limit.

Where I respect LL is in its battery conservation. It must be written very well. I’ve even noticed that my phone does better with LL than with most stock launchers.

As far as different pictures go Rich F, you could use Panels that are set to match the size of your phones screen. Then /Customize Item/Properties/Miscellaneous… and uncheck the.. Clickable box (also, tap all the borders in the edit menu and set them to zero), then to make it easier just copy the Panel over and over dragging them to other home areas. Of course don’t forget to set its Normal Background option to a picture!

You could also create a Bookmark and then.. /Customize Item.. /Shortcut/Lightning Desktop Bookmark.. and choose a second desktop that it will switch to. You can then make the shortcut completely transparent, set it to launch with a tap, swipe ⤴, swipe ⬇… whatever.

LL suports up to 10 desktops and each one is infinite in its number of home screens. Each desktop can have its own main homescreen as long as you choose /Settings.. /Desktop.. /Wallpaper and choose.. /Change the destop wallpaper.. its the one that says underneath it.. “This wallpaper overides the system wallpaper.” And Badda-Boom-Badda-Bing!

  7. Right, Lightning has quite a few weaknesses, and ease of use is one of them. But there’s something that I don’t understand after all these years.

Sure, the app has some pretty complex features, and scripting in itself requires a great knowledge and time to master. But that doesn’t mean you have to use it. It’s here and it won’t hurt if it’s not used. The script engine is no even started before a script is called. When using the launcher for the first time it behaves as most other launchers, or at least in a very basic and traditional way. You put apps and widgets on a grid, you have pages to the right and the left, et voilà.

I understand that the app is frightening because of the flood of settings and option. However I sincerely think that the main structure makes sense and that most basic tasks are a few clicks away, and again that the additional features doesn’t render basic functions so hard to use.

I need to say however that, being the developer of the app, my point of view is extremely biaised, lol !!!

Pierre Hébert You’re completely right about this. And I think you made a great decision in making an optional Basic/Expert Mode toggle just for the people who see a bunch of stuff they don’t know yet and panic. I’ll admit, the first time I popped open Lightning Launcher, even I let myself freak out and then quickly refunded it at first, before calming down and buying it back again. It was surprising to me as I taught myself how to use Tasker/AutoApps and even a whole music production DAW with no outside help!
