A new version of Lightning Launcher is online, with the brand new “Floating Desktop” feature! It remained a long time in beta, but it’s now available in the stable channel for everyone – version 12.6. Hooray!
A floating desktop is a desktop that can be displayed anywhere, anytime. Just swipe from an edge of your screen and the floating desktop will be displayed above any other app, always ready to launch apps or display widgets, just when you need it. And since this is a Lightning desktop, you can use pretty much the same features as found in a regular desktop: widgets, folders, panels, scripting and so on. Enjoy!

How do you set this up? I can’t find it in settings…
Set it up from General settings / floating desktop (a few more infos here: http://www.lightninglauncher.com/wiki/doku.php?id=floating_desktop)
The new floating desktop is really great 👍. How can I darken the background? In the desktop setting I can change the background colour and transparency for this floating desktop. But it didn’t work. The background didn’t darken.
Try to restart the app, I believe there is an issue with background change not taken into account immediately
Restarting the app did not help. It seems that changing the background colour will not overtaken when leaving the menu. If I enter the menu for changing background colour again, the setting is like before the change.
As a workaround it is possible to add a black picture in the background…
Do you mean the background colour is not being taken into account both when the desktop is viewed in normal mode and as a floating screen ?
Yes, as a workaround you can add a blank item and configure its box background, then enlarge it as needed, move it at the bottom of the items stack, and finally set it as non clickable.
It happens only when the desktop is viewed as a floating screen, that the background colour is not being taken into account. If the desktop is viewed in normal mode, it works fine.

What app did you use to capture the screen video?
That’s a feature of the current stock ROM from Sony (Xperia Z1). Long press the power button and choose screen capture (video).
You must add blank item, go to edit mode, set basic background for some color, disable text, disable icon, resize item as you need and set z-index to bottom.
Pokud chceš pozadí na plovoucí obrazovce, musíš vložit prázdný předmět na plochu. V redakčním režimu zvolit ten prázdný předmět, pak jit do záložky pole, a jako základní pozadí vybrat nějakou barvu. V záložce ikona ji zakázat, v záložce text ho zakázat. Pak roztáhnout předmět na velikost jakou potřebuješ. Následně v redakčním režimu vybrat takový kříž a tam je dole nastavení pro z-index. Tak vyber úplně vzadu, tím tu položku budeš mít v pozadí. Hotovo a už se ti to to zobrazí i při vyvolání plovoucí plochy.
Hi nice update. Unfortunatley I often have a problem that app links are broken. If I click on an App the drawer it is not clickable. And if I click on a app shortcut, it says cannot find app and I need to select app or go to play store. I need to reload the App drawer often to make it clickable again.
I love the floating desktop!
I’d like to make a few requests on it:
1. Some way to tint it, like honoring the desktop background alpha/color
2. Honoring the status/notification bar settings, like by letting me draw over it.
3. Have a shortcut to toggle the floating desktop, in addition to the currently existing show/hide shortcuts.
4. More advanced, but #3 and let me specify a desktop. Use case is with GMD Gesture Control and having a “left” floating desktop for the normal things and a “bottom” floating desktop for home automation control.

There’s a problem with the panel, when I scroll it vertical it is halting like the fps went down.
Not every app can be part of the floating desktop. Is there anyway to fix this? Every messaging app, besides the default one will not float
Hey where did you put an option that we can add background and overlay and mast to an icons and that we can customize an app drawer space bar?
Awesome app as always! I would like to request below additions if possible:
1. Multi-select items on desktop to apply same set of configs. (like same background color or detach from grid, etc) or to move them in batch!
2. A option to move a widget to front/back when there is a overlap with other items. Though, I remember having this option in some old versions, I couldn’t find it anywhere in the present version other than a toggle to swap items if there’s an overlap. The only way I could move an item to front is by duplicating it so that it gets to front and delete it’s old copy. Is there any simpler way to do it?
3. I could find position options (like pin, attach/detach from grid) for an item only when I long press on them in edit mode but not on when I’m not in edit mode.
I could finally add ‘3d’ effect to my desktop icons by customizing long tap option! (i assigned it open a folder containing a widget 🙂 )

1) in edit mode you can copy and paste style… (on right side panel). About multi select – this request is here years, you are not first.
2) you must go to edit mode, and go to 4 icon from bottom panel (symbol for cross), here you can set z-index.
3) you have right. But this functios are few more, than normal activity. Because are only in edit mode.
