Is there a way to fix the size of a folder?

Is there a way to fix the size of a folder? I’m making folders that open to a single row of items and scroll horizontally. The only way I found to do this is to set, under layout, columns to the number of items I want and set rows to Automatic. Then, in order to keep a single row when I arrange the items, I un-check Rearrange Items under Misc. Then when I’m done, I can re-check it.

What I’d like is to have a folder open to a 1×6 cells panel, with each cell being the size of an icon. I want this,  no matter how many rows of items I have. If I set the Layout to be 1×6, each cell is stretched to the height of the screen. It doesn’t matter if Use Desktop Size is checked or not. If I set it to automatic with say three rows, it opens to 3×6. And I have to move the items back into a single row.

Does any of this make any sense? 🙂 Thanks!

  1. What about use stoppoints?

  2. Set the size of the folder, under settings, folder, current folder window.

Chris Chastain That changes the window size, but not the number of rows. Making it smaller squishes the items. I guess what I really want is to set the window dimensions and the row dimensions independently of each other.

Danbar Danbar Can you elaborate? I’m not sure what you are suggesting.

  5. That’s correct. Set the folder window size to the size you want displayed, and the set row to 1 or a custom size.

Okay got it. I would not have found that. For the benefit of others… I open the folder I want to change. Long press on the title and select the settings icon in the UR corner of the pop-up. Goto Layout, set rows to fixed size, with the size being 200. The back up one level and goto Current Folder Window. Scroll down to Height, and set it to 220. That gives room for margin and title. Now the row shows a single row of icon at a time. Exactly what I wanted. Thanks!

Yep that’s it, you have define the size of the panel first height and width, it took me forever to figure it out.
