Icon development seems to be a hot topic currently and I was wondering if it might be a good idea to have a section dedicated for that kind of posting so that we don’t flood the discussion section with a bunch of icon related posts. Also, assigning a moderator to look over it might be a good idea so that things stay on topic and help to drive creative thinking and lead the community to finding a solution.

Jacob Barton its ironic you should suggest moderators to look after that topic because the people posting ARE moderators.

Oh I meant more like assigning one specific moderator to look over that topic/section. That way it doesn’t go stale or lost within the rest of the posts in this community.

That’s cool, don’t mind me. I have a hundred things on my mind and even when I think I’m helping it could hurt.

There are some problems with this.
When you start a discussion, you don’t know if it will become a hot topic or not. And changing the previous posts when something becomes one is possible, but not funny (you need a computer, search those posts, change them, one after another…). Also there are some hot topics over time that happen once, and having a section for each of them will be a bit messy because Google+ sections are very simple, just a name and post there. You can’t have hierarchy like folders.
But the main problem is that you can’t attach pictures in comments. That’s the main reason why those hot topics become a bit like spam. If you want to share another one you need to make a new post. (We could also use online page repositories…but I’m not sure what’s worst)
(Yes, I’m a moderator even though I don’t feel like one. Anyway this is a discussion so feel free to discuss and suggest other possible solutions :)

I personally like the idea but indeed google+ is not a great tool for that.
But what about some kind of generic section, such as “Hot topics” ? That would remain difficult to identify hot topics right at the beginning as TrianguloY said, but this would also be a good enough solution to prevent too much flood in the general discussion section.

Personally if you look at it correctly it is a general discussion anyway so the posts are legitimately in the right place, though its annoying to see one after another of nothing but talks of icons. As far as I’m concerned just use the icon you like and leave it at that.
In any case no matter how annoying it can be at least it isn’t some idiot trying to spam shoe sales in an app community…. What the hell does a pair of shoes have to do with the app anyway?

Ya I guess I haven’t ever run a G+ Community so I wasn’t sure how it was on setting up such things. I think a Hot Topic section would be a good addition though that way those actively involved in that current hot topic won’t have to search for posts relating to it. It would also keep us from taking room up for normal discussion/questions that users might have.

And what about leave the discussion section for those sometimes looong topics and make another one named ‘ask here’ or similar for those short questions?

Good idea TrianguloY

Talking about sections: how about remove the ‘Posts deleted or disappeared’ section? no one needs it and its nearly empty.
