I had this posted in a reply but I think it needs a bit more attention so I’ll start a new discussion. I’ve been awhile for quite awhile due to work but still lurking. Looks like icon stuff has once again come to a hot topic.

With this in mind perhaps a separate private community could be created to bring this topic to a final closure. One that will be heavily moderated and controlled so that it is an inviting environment for creativity and is meant to drive everyone to a final goal. To share and critique in a respectable manner. This is a great community and I can see this issue rubbing people the wrong way and creating unwanted friction which would not be optimal.

I personally would be behind this idea as I believe it would be a way to properly share ideas and other icons out there that could possibly spark something wonderful.

I know that some may believe this to be a bad idea because it creates a separate community and leaves out some people but I do not believe this to be a bad thing. We currently have almost 2,200 members and we don’t need that many people all giving opinions. Not saying they aren’t important but you can not please everyone.

This way people who truly want to develop an icon/brand/name for this app can help and we won’t flood this community for those who are here for technical support and actual knowledge of the app itself.

I could add a poll but this is a decision that will of course be Pierre’s. Feel free to + if you are one of those who would like to see this idea come to fruition and drive that community to create something great.

Or we should create some dedicated posts because all people who want to contribute or want to share his / her opinion will comment on related topic. Everyone who want to participate or following the progress can “bookmark” that posts.

With this way we can keep “developing” activity transparent for everyone in this community and if some unwanted things happen, moderator or the owner have right to solve the problem with their own way.

    * just my opinion *

    🙂

I thought about this but there are a few issues that came to mind. It would be hard for people to post new icon ideas and designs with dedicated posts.

It would also possibly flood someone’s inbox with 30-40+ replies when people get active with bringing new ideas to the table and comment one another.

I also believe this community to be more focused on showing what the app can do and helping one another. Not focused on the app design, coding, marketing, etc.

This of course is just my opinion as well 😉

To clarify the private community I would be talking about would accept anyone wanting in, it just would be moderated like this current community. It would also most likely be temporary and removed once the icon issue is resolved.

Nice to see you there Jacob Barton 🙂

This is true that from time to time some discussions tend to go slightly off topic. This is not that these discussions around the icon are not suitable with the project, but I understand that they produce a lot of noise in the middle of other discussions more related with help requests, features suggestions and bug fixes, which are the reasons to live of this community.

But I think this is more an issue with the G+ tool than a problem with the way this community is structure. Not being able to add new images in comments to a post is the #1 issue, no configurable notification per category is another big one.

These limitations are nevertheless here to stay! And even though the Discussion category has been initially created to hold topics such as the icons one, there may be no other way to limit noise than opening a new, dedicated and temporary community, I am not against this, after all it won’t break anything.

What other members are thinking of a this idea ?

Honestly, I haven’t minded the icon “noise” 😊. I’m OK with leaving those discussions where they are in the “Discussions” category

What about a new category “Help & Support”? “Discussions” is possibly too general…

Isn’t it the goal of “Ask” ?

There hasn’t been a lot of comments here, but I will nevertheless create a new community. It will be better this way.
