Lately, since V14.0.1 (r2851) I’m having crashes. I’m tweaking Lutz Linke’s COMPANION template to my needs. Mostly changing zooper for KWGT to all widgets. But when I try to change now ligthning launcher crashes and reverts to stock LG launcher.
I don’t know if those are lightning or COMPANION template issues because by now I have both zooper and KWGT installed while changing from one to another.

I got complaints by other users, too. Tried, but was not able to load a single one of my templates. Failed, crashed, resulted in just blank screens. Reinstalled LL, cleared data etc, nothing helped. Granted they are all 1-2 years old. But looks like we are facing a lot of serious incompatibilities with old templates.
In my case Comanion template is working like a champ. Now is a zooper/kwgt hybrid, but your scripts Lutz Linke still does their magic.
But I’m reworking in kwgt all zooper widgets on your template and when I want to apply new kwgt widgets to template lightning launcher crashes on me.
Yesterday my launcher becomes so unstable that I had to reload a backup of the hybrid. But once loaded all returns to normality but for the change widgets issue.
I really hope for a solution because now I just can’t live without Lightning Launcher nor COMPANION template.

I had the time to look a bit at the problem, but I had no crash when loading the Companion template, except when trying to load it twice in the same setup (merge). It then crashed with an out of memory error because of widgets. Other than this issue, I also found that fonts where not correctly imported when merging, but that’s another problem.
I tried on 4.4, 5 and 7, but without widgets on 7. The templates seemed to be loaded and working correctly. My tests were superficial though.
I don’t think that in normal use the launcher uses more memory with respect to widgets, but maybe the peak memory use is higher when extracting the template, thus reaching a memory limit more quickly than before, and triggering a crash.
There’s also another possibility but I don’t know whether this still applies: clearing zooper data before to reload widgets may help.

As I understand, the issue is not linked with the template/backup loading process itself but appears after. And it is linked with widgets.
Are you able to capture the log using logcat from a PC? Otherwise, are you able to send the log so that I can retrieve it through the developer console? (If yes, please add a comment so that I can distinguish it, I have several other pending crash reports)
Sorry, Pierre HĂ©bert, I don’t know how to extract a logcat from pc. But I’m rooted and use “3c TOOLBOX” app and there is option for view logs, I’m not sure if I could extract it from there. If you know yes… I wonder how…??
I don’t know this app and if it can extract logs, but root will allow you to view the full log at least with other log viewers found on the play store. I you could send it to me by email this would be very nice.
