Unsure if I’m missing something, but is it possible to cut and paste a shortcut from the main desktop into a folder or panel?

I’ve an app that allows you to create a shortcut but it places it on the desktop whereas I want it inside a folder.

Possible or not?

Not like that (in this release, but coming).

Just drag it into the folder.

Hold until animation completes and release.

All dragging does when the folder is visible, is drag it under the folder.

Dreag it onto the folder opener, not the folder.

Still didn’t work. I ended up actually managing to totally mangle my layout forcing me to restore a backup as a result.

My desktop is totally empty, bar a panel at the bottom. Inside the panel I have the launcher for the folder along with three other items.

Dragging the shortcut onto the ‘folder launcher’ simply ended up placing it on top of the icon in question. Removing it ended up (in LLX’s unique way of sometimes being a real PITA to modify) with a mangled panel that was so heavily screwed up I had to restore.

Drag it on top of the icon for your folder.

    Do not let go.

You will see a short animation (kinda swells and shrinks).

    Now let go.

    Sorry I was obviously unclear.

Drag it onto the folder opener and hold it there until the animation finishes.

I got none of that. I dragged it on there, first off the panel lit up, then I got a slight glow around the edge of the icon – no animation though.

Doesn’t matter then if I let go there and then or after 30 seconds, all I get if I let go is the shortcut sitting on the icon.

Not to opened folder 😉 folder must be closed.

Yes, I know. As was clear from Lucas’s post. I’m dragging it onto the Icon that opens the folder that sits in the panel.

    The folder IS closed.

To be more precise about animation, when dropping to a target…

The background fades up and then snaps back.

It should be fairly obvious when to release.

The panel does that. NOT the icon that sits in the panel that opens up the folder when I touch it normally.

Just to clarify: I’m not dropping this onto an Icon that sits on the desktop. I’m dropping it on an icon that lives in a Panel that’s on the desktop.

    Well, ok.

    Same thing almost.

Drag the item into the panel.

Once the item is in the panel, go to edit mode of panel and follow previous instructions.

Finally, success! Thanks Chris Chastain! It’s a real messy process though. I really hope we get drag and drop at some point because having to navigate two layers like that, given LLX’s penchant for being squirrley when messing around on the desktop, is a real PITA!

It’s not that bad really. You just have to be editing the container you want to work in.

I had a set up that used 2 panels within another panel, for a specific effect.

It was really difficult to manage.

Copy and paste is on the way though!

Chris Chastain It’s not the basic concept that’s the issue, it’s LLX’s predilection to misinterpret an edit action the wrong way and then, all of a sudden you find your carefully located panel is now rotated, re-sized or, as has happened on more than one occasion, now somewhere off the screen and lost on the infinite desktop never to be seen again!

Don’t get me wrong, I love LLX’s customization, but I’ve now learnt to run a backup before I make any change that goes beyond ‘adding an application to a folder’!

Oh yea I’ve had to get my timing jus right where if I have several layers of panels in different places very close but only want to drop into a certain one I have to let it go at just the right millisecond to keep it from dropping down into a different one lol it’s just real precise getting the all the hierarchy just right for me it was almost like it was learning to play instruments lol

I agree with you there Rachel Ambler about how the high level of customization leads to an undesirable hide and seek game on the desktop sometimes …

Yep hide and seek with an attitude lol
