It’s there any way to set a gesture off the edge of the screen to display a sidebar or folder from any screen (not just the home screen) even when other apps are open? Basically trying to create a hidden shortcut for a list of apps without having to hit the home button first. There is no gesture that assigned “from left edge” for example…. Thanks

You can only do that with the floating desktop.
That might work for what you want

That’s what floating desktop is for isn’t it?

Assuming that I have the shortcut on the desktop, yes it’s similar. But if not, it involves extra presses. Esthetically is also a totally different feel.
I was afraid that was the answer though… Thanks!

I have no idea what you mean then :/

Zsolt Golenya seems that the same would apply to a side bar or folder (the assumption that the shortcut was on the desktop, folder, whatever)

A floating desktop can be triggered anywhere at any time with a swipe from the edge you don’t have to press anything and you don’t have to be on the homescreen. Maybe try rewording your op because to me a floating desktop is exactly what’s needed.

I had wrongly assumed that the floating desktop would only recall the “home” desktop. Sorry about that! I just made a new desktop and triggered that and you are correct, now it has whatever shortcuts I want there. Awesome so far! Now I just gotta play with the width so it looks more like a sidebar… Hopefully that’s possible. Thanks guys!

I can’t seem to get the width to change. I had played with the “slide to open size” and “slide to open width” to no avail. What do those settings do? Is it possible to make it appear like a side bar (ie: narrower width?)

They are the width and height of the trigger zone If you turn on show handles you will see what they do.

Ah! I see. So there is no way to get the floating desktop itself to appear narrower like a sidebar?

The desktop is the size of your display there’s nothing stopping you from adding an object to it that doesn’t fit the width or the height though.

So you want to adjust the width of the floating desktop or swipe in a sidebar like a floating desktop, correct?
]]>
< ![CDATA[
Yeah basically…

Just add a vertical panel to the side you want it to slide out from. when you swipe it will give the appearance that it’s a sidebar. That’s what the floating desktop is for.

Can you explain what you mean bahrta sai? Thanks
]]>
< ![CDATA[
Zsolt Golenya I just use a panel one column wide and however many rows you want & set scrolling to vertical only, then add shortcuts to it. That way you can change the color or wallpaper of that panel. The ubuntu phone sidebar is a good example.

bahrta sai ,but how do you make it work by swipe in from edge of screen from any app? Because if you are using shortcuts to access your panel, there isn’t a gesture for swiping from edge of screen. Thanks

I just make a seperate desktop with the setup I described, set that desktop as a floating desktop & set the swipe to open position & swipe to close position. Then it will display in any app.
