I have LL installed on my Galaxy Note 4, and had some problems with the NY Times widget, so I deleted it, rebooted the phone, and re-added the widget. It seemed to work fine. I then added the widget to another part of the screen, and deleted the first instance of the widget. When I hit the Delete option, LL wiped all of my setup – every folder, app and widget that I’d applied disappeared. I tried several things – rebooting the phone, reinstalling LL, and restoring it from a template that I’d saved before the problem, but nothing worked – I just end up with an empty screen. I also created a new template from my tablet, copied that to my phone, and tried restoring, but again, the screen is completely blank except for the background image. Any ideas how I can get LL to start working again and hopefully restore my setup from one of the templates I’ve saved?

When you try to restore the template in your tablet does it work? Perhaps the template is broken…

Also, Pierre Hébert recommended you to make a template, and that’s good but specifically if you plan to restore it in another device (as in the tablet you mentioned) If you just want to make a backup for that device only, so you will restore it in that device only, I recommend a backup (as obvious as it seems)

(Oh, deleting the app data should work, also make sure you are overriding the existing setup when importing, not merging it)

Thanks for taking the time to read my post, and offering your comments. I’m still not able to get it to work. Here’s what I’ve done:

I installed LL on my Note 4 phone and configured apps and widgets on different screens (pages? I’m not sure of the terminology).

    I created a backup.

    I created a template.

I copied the template to my Note 10.1 2014 Edition tablet and loaded that into LL. That worked fine.

I deleted a NY Times widget on my phone and lost my entire configuration.

I attempted to restore from the template I’d sent to my phone, but nothing came back.

I attempted to restore from the backup, but nothing came back.

I reinstalled LL and tried again, but no luck.

I created a new template on my tablet, copied that to the phone, and attempted to restore from that, but again nothing showed up.

I copied all of the templates and backups over from my tablet and went through restoring each one, clearing the app data between each restore. Nothing came up.

I attempted to restore the most recent template that I created on the tablet, to the tablet. Everything disappeared on the tablet.

I attempted to restore on the tablet from each of the backup and template files, and nothing came back.

I’d love to get this working, as it’s such a great app, but I’d hate to get the whole thing set up again just to find that I lose it all again. Can you provide some suggestion for how best to proceed?

I also have Nova Launcher installed on the phone, but not the tablet. Don’t know if that could create conflicts on the phone?

Again, thanks for your patience and time helping me.

That’s…..really strange. So in your tablet a template worked, then no?

Nova doesn’t do anything, in theory.

Uninstall/install should delete all previous data on the phone.

Sorry…but I can’t help more, the only thing you can do is open the template/backups files (are zips) and check if the images/data is there, in case the templates are corrupted.

Other than that…no idea. Sorry :(

Hi, thanks for your thoughts. As near as I can tell the templates / backup files are okay – thanks for the tip that they’re zips. Each one has Core, Wallpaper, Widgets_data folders. The Widgets_data folders are empty, but the Core folders have Pages and Themes folders, as well as what looks like java script files (I’m not a java coder). The Pages folders have numbered folders, each of which has a couple of java script files and an Icon folder, and all the icons for my apps are there. Maybe I’ll try wiping LL off each device completely, then just test making backups / templates and restoring them, and if see if that works. If it does I’ll start again. Thanks again for your thoughts.

That’s really strange. There could be bugs of course (and there are), but deleting a widget is a rather trivial thing 🙁 I think that something else has been involved in triggering the issue.

Clearing app data should at least restore the setup to its default state, if not then it may indicates that something is broken at the installation level.

    Thanks for your feedback.

I have a feeling there’s a compatibility issue with the NY Times widget. In my first configuration (the one that disappeared) it was behaving erratically on both the phone and the tablet, and when I deleted it was when the problems started. I’m now rebuilding my configuration, and creating regular backups / templates and restoring from them to make sure they work. So far all is good; I haven’t put in the NY Times widget yet, but when I do I’ll see if that seems to create problems. Will let you know what I find.

Ok, thank you for the details. Since the Note 4 is a relatively new device, it might also be linked with the system software, more than the NY widget itself.
