Hi, since the last update LL is crashing frequently on both my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 phone and my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition tablet. I don’t see a pattern to when or why it happens, but I’ll be doing something – maybe browsing a website, or taking a note with the stylus, or checking email – and suddenly a notice pops up that LL has stopped working. I always click on “Send Report”. Any thoughts on how I can fix this? The version I’m using is 12.0.1 (R2021). If I uninstall and reinstall, will I lose my settings / configuration?

I have a note12.2 and have also seen LL act a little weird. No full crashes but laggy. I run it as well on a DROID Maxx so I have a comparison. No issues on the phone, so assumed it must be some issue with the Samsung software. I running 4.4.2 on the note and 4.4.4 on the Maxx.

I have a note 4 and it hasn’t crashed once, maybe your running outta memory not likely though since this things got 3gb ram, but IIRC lots of widgets and HD images use more RAM and if your using TW that’s not exactly light on RAM.

Install a logcat app run it and try to get it to crash check the log soon as it does and see what’s up.

If you make a backup or a template (make both just in case) you can uninstall/install and recover them back.

The only thing I don’t really know is widget data, I don’t have much experience to tell you exactly if it is fully recovered.

I am 99% sure that this is an out of memory error because of a widget update. The fact that LL crashes when you are using another apps is a direct indication: a widget provider updates its widget(s) in the background, then Lightning fails to process the update.

Uninstalling will have the effect of clearing most if not all widget data, which is the right thing to do. Export as a template instead of a backup if your widgets have some specific configuration (that is: if your widget provide some sort of customized content), otherwise prefer a backup then recreate your widgets (a single tap should be enough).

Just seems strange that this for me started almost simultaneously to when I upgraded LLX…

Package update seems to be handled incorrectly sometimes. There are some mechanisms in the platform to track package install/update/removal, for instance to ensure that widgets are deleted if you uninstall the launcher (because obviously the launcher cannot do it if it is removed). Somehow it is does not always behave well.

I have been experiencing this as well since the last update. Once or twice a day. I haven’t changed any widgets or updated any other apps for a long time. My setup has not changed.

First, many thanks to everyone who posted suggestions. I backed up both my tablet and phone, uninstalled and re-installed, restored from backups, and everything is working perfectly. One tip if you’re going to do this: I have LL set as the default launcher, and my Samsung devices wouldn’t let me uninstall – the uninstall button was grayed out. Once I went to defaults and turned off LL as the default launcher the uninstall button worked. I don’t know if this is just Samsung or Android, but I’d guess Android.
