Just wanted to say thanks for supporting animated gifs as icons. I am using an 8 bit theme system wide (as much as I can) and I set up my homepage to look like a video game level with a little mega man running through a Mario level. I even put Guile beating up the car from street fighter! Awesomesauce. Any way to get an animated gif to work as a wallpaper without downloading an external app? I have an app for my homescreen wallpaper but I’d like to have a different animated wallpaper for my app drawer…

You told us how awesome it is and then you didn’t show us 🙁

No but you can display a gif in a custom view with script. Resize it to match the screen and set it to the lowest depth stack crap on top of it and boom looks like a live wallpaper I did it myself on Android TV because it doesn’t support live wallpapers. I dunno if custom views can be used in the app drawer though.

Jay M can you please refer it to me how can I use a GIF as an icon?

  4. In the app drawer you can use an empty folder to display the gif, but it will only work in the “My Drawer” mode though. But you can reverse the way you use the wallpaper : display it in the app drawer, and use a gif in the home screen.

Amit Patil just select it as the background of any item, or as icon of a shortcut/folder.

Pierre Hébert I did just that. I’ve a shortcut to ‘All Apps’ on my home. I clicked edit on it then ‘Select an icon’ and then selected a GIF from the file chooser. The icon got changed to the GIF but it’s not animating.

  6. It should work as expected, maybe the gif has unsupported features, also make sure not to crop it.

Amit Patil try setting the icon using quickpic, it works for me.

Pierre Hébert I cropped it. This is the issue.

I selected uncropped GIF, still it did not work until I restarted LL. Post restart it’s working now.

  9. I forgot to say that animated gifs in background is supported in v14, not in v12.
