Sorry to dig this one out again, but I haven’t seen an update on this topic for a couple of months now, so thought I’d check it’s being worked on (or if it’s just some weird problem with my ROM).

The problem is “Expand notifications tray” action in gestures, is not working any more since I moved to Lollipop. I’m running a modified stock Samsung 5.0.1 ROM on an N910F (snapdragon Note 4), with root and busybox, it didn’t work on the completely stock version, so I’m assuming it’s not a problem with the modified ROM.

I’ve assigned it to many different gestures (I use swipe down normally), but remember seeing somewhere that swipe gestures might not be picked up correctly in panels, unless I set scrolling restrictions or something, so I tried setting to the home button, but that didn’t work either. I also tried setting the swipe down to do something else and it’s picking up the gesture fine. I also don’t have the status bar hidden (it’s transparent, but I’ve tried turning opacity up to 100% and it makes no difference).

Not sure if this will help, but it appears that many launchers suffer from this issue, the attached link is for NOVA launcher, where they appear to have got a fix using accessibility features.

I’d like to hear if anyone else has got this and whether it’s being worked on please. I’ve got a massive phone and I really miss this feature. Thanks!

    That’s a Samsung bug, or a ‘feature’ if you prefer.

    It seems that apps can’t open the notification panel, unless they have the accessibility service or something like that.

    You are on a custom Rom, so you are root. Maybe there is a fix, try to search.

    Or maybe there is a system shortcut to open it, or even an app to do exactly that, don’t know.

    Do you have tasker? I might have a workaround using tasker.

    I’ve searched apps just now, I think My Home Button is the only one that currently works (will test out soon). All the others won’t work on Lollipop and above, and it does appear to be mostly (if not all) Samsung users who are complaining, so you’re probably right, it’s something they’ve done that has messed this up! Having said that though, I suspect there are a lot of Samsung users on stock or modified stock ROMs and if NOVA can implement something, I’m hoping LL can too.

    I currently use AutomateIt for my automation but have paid for Tasker so would install it again in a flash if it cures this.

    Thanks guys! Will keep you posted on my progress too.

    To tell the truth, expanding the notification bar is not a public Android feature offered to third party apps. As a consequence Samsung doesn’t have to support the hack that allows apps to use it, this is its right.

    The issue is more that they are alone to constantly break these unofficial but well known features.

    Leo X  you can install tasker and try if it is capable of getting the statusbar down with a task. If so, I can provide you a script to trigger that through Lightning.

    Looks like tasker is a no go, the action is there but it doesn’t work… If you could detail the script, I think I might have a use for it for something else.

    None of the apps I tested seems to work. Nova is the only one that appears to currently have a workaround, but I’m not installing that!

    Thanks, I understand Samsung is always annoying everyone by breaking things, but hope you can put on your to-do list, for integration at some point in future. Even if it takes a while I think a lot of users (myself included!) would appreciate this. In the meantime I will continue looking for a workaround and post here if I find one

    var i = new TaskerIntent(“Open_Tray”);

    i.addAction(ActionCodes.STATUS_BAR);

    i.addArg(0);

    LL.sendTaskerIntent(i,false);

    OK everyone this app works

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.phoenixstudios.aiogestures&hl=en_GB

    – Install

    – Enable the service under settings > accessibility

    – Enalbe within the app at least one of the gestures, doesn’t matter which one, just enable it, otherwise service won’t run

    – Select shortcut to run from gesture menu in lightning

    – Select “All in one gesture”

    – Select “Status Bar” option

    enjoy gestures for opening the notification area again!
