Urgent question (not sure wether it really is a bug) to Pierre Hébert regarding inheritance in panels.
Urgent question (not sure wether it really is a bug) to Pierre Hébert regarding inheritance in panels. Are they treated like seperate “desktops”?
What I found: If I define folders’ background and borders at desktop level, changes apply immediately to every folder. But if I move a folder to a (new) panel, settings are kept at first. But changes at desktop level (“Folder windows”) to borders do not apply to these folders; however changes to background color do.
How is it supposed to work? Will settings inherit or is it currently a coinsidence?
It would be great if all “box” settings would inherit from desktop to folders in panels. Also in panel’s settings there are no “folder windows” options.

I have noticed several inconsistencies and have just chalked it up to the panel feature just being incomplete at this time. It IS in alpha still, after all. 😉
With Pierre being short on time, I was surprised to see him come out with this powerful new feature.
I am also awaiting his answer to your question.

I know it’s alpha, but since I’m busy working on my final contest entry (with panels) I wanted to ask, so I know what’s to expect with the final. I won’t rush him at all.

Indeed, this alpha preview was rough. Regarding folders, they should inherit from the desktop configuration, but this appears to be broken. Moving a folder to a panel or another folder will produce the same effect, but I confirm that in both cases, the desktop configuration should be used as a basis, exactly as Lutz Linke is expecting.
Chris Chastain : and you will find a few other unexpected goodies in the next iteration 😉

Awesome, can hardly wait.

Lutz Linke I think I found the flaw: it only works for the first desktop, could you confirm this ?

Pierre Hébert I only use one desktop, don’t need more, removed all others. So: yes, confirmed.
