Lock Screen keeps disabling.

Lock Screen keeps disabling.

This happens to me a few times each day, and I now know how to replicate it:-

If I am in an app (app having current focus) and the screen times out or I lock it, and then a notification appears, the lock screen fails to display. From this point onwards the lock screen no longer works unless I reload LLX (selecting the llx icon from the app drawer does it) , or manually navigate to the lock screen page.

Any ideas ?

I think I had the same prroblem but I managed to recover without having to reinstall llx ( ) because I always use Wave Launcher (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobilemerit.wavelauncher).  I was horrified to see there was no unlocker on the screen, but I was able to use the wave’s app drawer to launch one of the llx templates I have installed. Everything’s worked fine since then.

Unfortunately I can’t reproduce the problem because didn’t think to create a backup before replacing the template (‘”*”slaps self on forehead”*”)

Thanks for the detailed explanation, just one more question: are any notification causing the issue, or only notifications from some apps ?

    Hi Pierre,

I have noticed it occur with gmail and chomp sms, but do not think it is app related. Mainly as those are the two apps I regularly receive notifications from. I think, but am not totally sure, that it may even happen if I am in an app, such as what I am doing typing this now, and then receive a notification whilst the phone is active. I can then let phone time out and the lock screen will be disabled.

Another way of fixing it is to then go into the desktop settings where you select you screens, update your home screen from etc… and just back out, without making any changes. Also, you can turn the screen on and off about ten times and eventually the lock screen will activate again

Ok, whilst I was typing the above to you, I received the next posting from Curtis Sylvester (via gmail). Then, when I locked the screen, guess what, the lock screen was disabled. I pressed the power button 20 times, and the lock screen did not re-activate. I then pressed the Home button and the lock screen was present. Now I don’t know if this was purely coincidental (as I usually use the lock screen and not the power button).

I remember when I used Widgetlocker there was a home helper facility that you had to set because of the way the Home button works on Samsungs. This may be completely unrelated, and I will continue to narrow the issue down, but thought it worth mentioning.

Playing about I have a process to replicate this:-

    1) Open up Gmail and start typing an email

    2) Whilst in Gmail, from your PC, send an email to your phone gmail

    3) While in Gmail on your phone, let the phone time out

    4) Unlock phone – the lock screen does not appear, the screen turns on straight into the gmail app – where it should go to the lock screen instead.

    5) Now, continuing from above, using the phone back button, return to your home page.

    6) let the phone time out.

    7) Press power or home button – the screen goes to your home page and the lock screen is not displayed.

It seems that when the lock screen is disabled, focus will return to the last screen you were on when the phone timed out. And it seems to happen when you are in an app and receive a notification.

Question: does it happen to you in more than one template / lock screen ? I’m trying to track down how to trigger the bug that I got on my device. I’ve been spending a lot of time with a template that has a bug in it, and I haven’t had any more problems with the lock screen. Maybe that’s just a coincidence though …

I don’t use any templates and only have one lock screen, but you have given me an idea. I will remove the lock screen completely and set up a new one, and see if the issue is still present.

Interesting. After sending that reply to Carolyn, I turned off the screen and then unlocked the phone, and the lock screen was not there. I thought Christ, that blows all my theories. Then I turned the screen on again, and the lock screen flashed up literally for a nano second before the home screen got displayed.

Two things worth mentioning here are:-

    1) I am using NILS notification widget and clicking on the notification to that to reply to, and

    2) I am not using the standard unlocker icon, I am using one I made myself that unlocks by swiping up, down or across..

I will set up a new lock screen with the standard unlocker and try to take it from there.

Thanks for your inspiration Carolyn. I have created a new lock screen with the standard unlocker widget and so far everything seems to be ok.

    The only differences are:-

    1) Its a new screen

    2) Unlocker widget

Maybe my old one got corrupt or maybe it is the unlock function. I will monitor, as its early days so you never can tell.. I suspect the ole one has corrupted, maybe cot in a mess with various beta releases on top of eachother.

Do you have a backup of the flaky lockscreen? It would be interesting to see if the bug could be replicated on other devices or if it just lives with you.

I have a full llx backup taken yesterday that would have the problem lock screen in it. So far, since setting up a new one, it has been perfect.

Unfortunately deleting the old lock screen, uninstalling LLX, restoring phone to factory settings and reinstalling everything, creating a new lock screen, and the same issue is still occurring. I can only conclude it is a bug, and either not many people are reporting it, or not many use the lock screen, I dunno.. It happens most times (but not every) when I am in an app, reading an email that has just arrived, and either another notification arrives, or I pull down the status bar to open another notification. At that point, the lock screen disables. I am thinking that in my screen off gesture, I could add the Launch App, where the app launched is LLX. As that kicks the lock screen back into action when I choose it from the app drawer. Not really keen on bodging it, but it may be the only solution.

Is there anything you can build in, log-wise or temporary popup wise to provide some diagnostics, or sense that the lock screen has been disabled and re-enable it ?

It is not specific to one type of notification.

    Bump.

Any takers on this one. It’s driving me nuts. Any chance of some diagnostic code to see where the lock screen is disabling itself ?

I have created a very simple way to prove that the lock screen disables. This isn’t my normal usage pattern, but it proves the point and I suspect the underlying issue is the same.

Do you have a samsung phone with the home button that loads the app history when you hold it down ?

    1) send a text to someone

    2) lock the phone. Make sure the pin lock is disabled

    3) now with the phone locked, press the home key and the lock screen will light up.

    4) now while on the lock screen press the home button and hold it in until the app history is displayed.

    5) select the sms app from the history

    6) sms app will load.

    7) now press power button

    8) phone screen will turn off

    9) press power button

    10) phone lights up and lock screen is disabled. You will go.straight into the sms app.

11)press the back button to take you to your home screen

    12) press power off then on.

    13) lock screen is disabled.

That will replicate disabling the lock screen every single time I do it.
