1. When I’m using Talkback (Android default screen reader for low vision and blind people), I’m in drawer and have two pages of folders. When I go to second page and swipe or search with finger to hear next item it reads items/folders from 1st page. (I have in first page folders from A-M and in sec page are folders with letter N but they are not read, I hear names from first page) Same thing is with panels, folders, pages, desktops.

2. When I apply icon pack for panel in panel settings it doesn’t apply to icons in folders. To manually apply icon pack to every folder is little bit annoying. It’s behaves like that in other folders that are not in panel, app drawer too.

3. When I delete app from folder it’s little folder preview still shows old app. In this preview aren’t icons with applied icon packs shown. It doesn’t look nice. Refresh doesn’t help. example: I have folder “Internet” I created this folder and first apps that I moved there were Gmail, Tapatalk and Chrome. I moved Chrome out of folder and added to same place Firefox but little preview shows Chrome icon.

4. New UI is nice but it’s not use able for people that use Talkback. Those little icons on those side bars and long press popup are symbol fonts. When I use Talkback I hear just letters like: b x z I u i p. I can’t label them (add a name to them that Talkback read “Edit item”, “Geometry editor” or “copy” and not x c z a because they are symbol fonts and not menu items) can you change them to menu items or add labels to them?

I can help with questions about TalkBack if it helps. it would be great if this launcher would be more blind/low vision people friendly. Please write answer to tell me if it even possible.

Regarding 1) I am aware of the problem but unfortunately I don’t have a solution for this. This is is linked with an internal mechanism inside Lightning and I cannot change this without breaking a lot of stuff. I might have an idea for a workaround though. I just activated TalkBack and I’ll play a bit with it to see how I can improve this.

    2) unfortunately I don’t plan to change this behavior. There is room for improvement here, but alas this is probably not an area I’ll rework.

    3) Strange, it should be updated automatically and take custom icons. Could it be that the folder icon style is set to “Icon” and not “Grid” or “Stack”?

    4) That’s a big problem indeed. Without TalkBack, long pressing on a button display a small toast with the clear name. Maybe it is possible to attach this clear name directly to the button for accessibility purpose. This is possible for images, maybe it is possible for buttons too. This could be used for items with hidden label too.

Quick question: how do you enter edit mode using TalkBack? Did you setup a shortcut “Edit layout” without TalkBack or is there a way to trigger a long tap somewhere?

For 4 I confirm that there is an easy solution that works great, it will be in the next release.

I’m happy that you at least try to make your launcher more accessible, I appreciate that.

I enter “Edit Mode” by double tap and hold on object (icon or widget), wait 2 seconds then I move finger downward or upward direction until I hear that I’m in this white popup window, then I choose edit button (“o” button in this little popup menu). Most the time this menu sidebar opens and i move my finger to the right side of my device until I hear that I’m in sidebar menu. Recently I use gesture “swipe with two fingers” when Talkback is activated I have to swipe with 3 fingers (when using Talkback just add one more finger to standard gesture to use it, to perform 2 finger swipe use 3 fingers) to open sidebar edit menu. Mostly I use 2 finger gestures to edit layouts

To use long tap use 1 finger dobule tap and hold.

    3. When folder is in “Grid” it updates its preview but another modes it doesn’t

    4. I noticed something, when I add new object (“7 button”) to desktop and this large menu window appears with options to choose if I want to add shortcut, widget etc there Talkback says strange letter but then it says proper name. Is it possible to implement such thing to sidebar edit menu in desktop and little white popup window with customization settings for objects in desktop? Ah I didn’t know about this toast popup! It works with Talkback too, find a icon then 1 finger double tap and hold now it says its name. Still it would be nicer if I could hear button name without this like it is in “add new item” popup

In Talkback settings developer options is option to ” “display speech output” with this option you can see what TalkBack speaks. Maybe option “one tap selection” could be helpful to you, blind people dont use it but I think that normal way how TalkBack works could be confusing for some.
