Launcher freezes up and has to be force stopped when I try to change an app shortcut’s icon.

The rest of the phone continues to respond normally. I can still access items in the notification bar, and swipe to activate Wave Launcher.

I can use the Lightning file manager to browse to an image and change the icon that way, but I can’t select from an icon pack or any other file manager.

It’s still possible to apply an icon pack to the desktop or app drawer, just not to individual icons.

So far I’ve tried clearing data, uninstalling and reinstalling, and switching back to Ll home, which has the same problem.

Before I do yet another factory reset, does anyone have any ideas of anything else I can try to fix this?

Yup, and the phone has been off and on and many other changes have been made to it since the problem started about a week ago

    Clearing data should do it…

If Pierre Hébert can’t provide you another solution I think you have to do a factory reset

Could it be linked with a particular icon pack ?

Pierre Hébert nope. I uninstalIed all the icon packs and it still happens. I can’t get to non-ll file manager, and I’m almost certain I know why, just don’t know enough about android to know how to fix it, short of factory reset, which I am loathe to do. Partly because of the amount of time and effort required, but also because it’s likely to happen again if I don’t know exactly what causes it.

It started happening after I tried out Solo Launcher, which also allows icon editing. (I’ve since gotten rid of it but the problem remains.)

I’ve often seen this in other systems when an application changes something in a shared library. (One memorable incident took place at a mortgage company when an update to SQL Server changed the meaning of the command that used to mean “lock a record” to “lock the entire table” Boy was that fun when they put it online … I got lots of overtime pay that week until I convinced the consultants who did the software upgrade to look in the right place… :-P).

Anyway, my device is behaving as if the functioning of whatever Ll uses to call an external file manager has been changed,…

I’ve switched back to stock for now because this has made me realize that being able to tinker with the way the icons look is among the top three reasons I started spending so much time using Ll. 🙂
