I don’t think this feature exists yet, so I’m posting here:

Say you have a desktop with several screens based essentially on context (i.e. one for work, one for home, one for travelling, one for weekends, etc).  I think it could be quite useful to have a way to automatically make one of those screens the “home” screen based on weekday & time of day (and possibly even location).

Eg: I get up and check my phone and I see one screen.  By the time I get to work, it’s changed to another screen.

If this feature already exists, or if there’s a script to do it, could someone please point out where it’s located?

Thanks.

I think there is no script, but it is possible to script that…

I’m not sure if you can set a desktop as home desktop, but you can set it as current desktop…

Haven’t checked if it works but you can set the home key to run a script. From script, take the event date and go to a desktop accordingly.

I lack the expertise and the time to script it myself.  At least it’s good to know that it’s possible.  Setting a current desktop would be fine too.

Sounds a little like google now… There are also location-aware utilities that will do this sort of thing . I have used llama

to do something like this and it’s very easy to setup and use.

Interesting Carolyn Boyle. Thanks for the link. I remember hearing about llama before, but never having had the time to investigate properly.  Maybe it’s time to make the time. 🙂

Filippo Salustri Carolyn Boyle you can use tasker too. I’ve never used llama but tasker is pretty easy to use. There’s an ll shortcut “specified desktop & position”. You can set a profile in tasker or llama to run that task based on time of day or location.

Llama comes with some predefined profiles, and you can go crazy creating your own custom ones too …. (sound familiar? 😉

You define locations, then tell it which profile to run at that location.

Depending on what it is you want to do, it can be used with the involvement of very few brain cells.

bahrta sai, I’m on the other end of the rope from you. I have tasker, but haven’t taken the time to learn how to use it..but I’ve been happy with llama.

I’ll help you if you ever get stuck on llama as long as you’re willing to help me figure out how to run tasker 🙂
